I'm going to sticky this one for awhile. Give you guys trapped at home because th eMrs won't let you get out something to do, or you can't afford to put gas in the big truck. Lets see your butterfly shots......amateur to pro. No matter. I got one yesterday, I'll add it as soon as I get a chance. I'm sure there are mountain ones, westside ones, exotic ones. No matter how common.

snakes aren't the only thing I have in my yard.....THANK GOD!

Nice buttterfly :)What do you think it scores? :)
-
Hey Pope, your driveway has more weeds in it than mine....must be from the wetside. ;)
Not sure what it scores, but I just noticed the dead bee in the picture. Roadkill, or disease......
-
Here's one of my better butterfly pics. Mine are from the zoo though. :chuckle:

GORGEOUS.....thanks for sharing. I wanted to go to the one up in Vancouver but haven't made it yet. I managed to make it to the exhibit when it was in Portland...sorry, no pics.
-
Thanks. This is just from the little butterfly exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo.
-
Got any more? Does not have to be native...thats cool!
-
Mine is taken in Glacier National Park. I was hiking after some rams to shoot (go figure?) when i came upon the butterfly. Shot it and got on to more important things... ;)
-
Mooooo. Those have high fence written all over them :chuckle: :chuckle:
Great now you will have me out in my yard trying to take a picture of a fricking butterfly. Gives me something to do while chasing the kids I guess.
-
Thats the point. There is always something to hunt.

-
dragonflies are cool. they can fly like 26 miles an hour. kinda reminds me of an A-10 when one comes buzzing by.
-
Thats how bone learned how to shoot. I'd sit there and try to take them down with the 22 with iron sights.

Here is a butterfly I found dead in my yard. I thought it was perfect addition to this mount. Does anyone know if it will last or not? Or if i need to put something on it to preserve it. I also have a large bees nest in my yard that I want to harvest with out getting stung and damaging it. Any advice on that would be great too.

Thats awesome.
It will eventually fade but I don't think there is anyway to dtop that other than keeping it out of the sun. Be extremely careful when dusting it as it will be most fragile.
The bees nest is best obviously after it freezes, but before it rains. Other than that, bug spray works. Dose it real good, then let it dry and it will be fine. There might be a bit of an odor for awhile, but it will disappear. When you collect it, store it somewhere where it won't hurt if a bee or two comes out....like not over your bed for instance.
-
Couldn't you give that butterfly a fine mist of clear coat spray? Like a krylon varnish or something that will seal it? I have doen it with flowers and fruits, but never bugs...........
That is a GREAT idea on the mount. Love it.
-
What about spraying bee killer in a garbage bag and covering the nest with it. Right now it is a little bigger than a cantaloupe and they are working like mad on it. I wanted to let it get as big as possable but we are having a big 4th bash and I don't want anyone to get stung so this is their last few days.
-
Here's one.
-
Nice one chukar!
-
Perfect Chukar.....
Do it at night when they are in or they will be backing up and coming in while you are standing there holding the bag.......OUCH!
-
just a few more
