I'm happy to say I increased your odds by a zillion of a % today when I decided not to apply for a goat hunt this year.  Just sayin....

I never apply for goat hunts. Odds of 1 in 700, why bother? I think a raffle ticket would be more cost effective.

There are several units in Montana with odds of 1 in 30 or better. Spending even $6 in Washington on a 1 in 1000 odds draw just doesn't make sense to me unless you like donating to the bonus point program.  If you really want to hunt mountain goats, apply in other states or else buy a lotto ticket. If you win the lotto (which probably has better odds) you can buy a hunt in a lot of states.

Well good and I thank you, my odds now have increased to 1:699, only 698 more to go...

$6 for a chance at a goat tag.  Seems like a pretty good deal to me.  I don't care if the odds were 1:1000000000000.  I piss away $6 all the time on nothing.  Atleast I get a chance in the draw.

A buddie of mine has 16 points for goat ,sheep, and moose, 16x16=256, thats how many chances he has out of the pool of other folks chances

I figured my dads actual draw odds at what wdfw posted for I think 2009? With max pts it was around 360 to 1. Not too shabby! Now if he only could live another 300 years I think he may have a chance!

Yes, the odds suck, but the trophy potential is great, and i apply in the other states as well.  Goats are the number one animal i want to hunt, i spend all summer, and Alot of time the rest of the year chasin goats with a camara, i want to hunt them in the country i know and love.

Geez after stricking it big time last year not even going to try huh?  Oh well you just improved my odds. LOL.

Goat would be a cool hunt, hopefully one day it would be nice to draw a tag.

I guess I should have said it's not only the terrible odds that make me not apply. It's also because I don't want to have to work that hard. If you really want to hunt mountain goats, $6.50 isn't a bad price to pay for a small chance at a tag. But for me, I'd rather spend that on a raffle ticket for a moose hunt, or an elk hunt, or a deer hunt, or ANYTHING but a goat hunt!

I guess if I want to go up into the high country like that I would rather be going after mule deer, and I can do that every year on the high hunt.

If you ever need a hiking partner to see the goats I volunteer.

If I recall last year the auction goat tag went for $8,500. Last time I checked a guided Alaskan goat hunt with an OTC tag was running 10k-12k. That doesnt include airfare, tip, and extra baggage fee. IF i had the money I would rather buy the WA auction tag for a DIY hunt then go to AK or anywhere else where there are OTC goat tags. A friend drew the Chelan tag last year and filled it in 4 days as I recall on a DIY. The same family have also filled 2 lifetime sheep draws DIY. Just saying, if the money was there I would rather go here and thats why I put in the cash for the permit, you can find $6 worth of change in my ash tray in the truck at any given time.

I too have looked at that, but the areas I want to hunt aren't open with the auction tag.

Same as the raffle permits. Only units with two or more tags.
