Title: Stevens County Wolves!
Post by: Elkslayer on May 06, 2011, 11:39:42 PM
I have had about 3 different people tell me they have seen wolf sign in south stevens county, a couple of them even claim that they have seen 6-7 running together. Two weeks ago I went into the area shed hunting and ended up finding tracks and 3 different piles of scat that I am guessing was probably 1 to 2 weeks old.

Went back in last Wed and hung a trail cam and I will be putting up at least one more for sure maybe two within the next week. With any luck I will have me some wolf pics soon!
I also called the local Game Warden and asked her about this, she said they have heard several rumors but nothing definate. When I go in to put up another trail cam I will take some good pics of the scat and post so i can get a good opinion from our scat experts on here!
From the sounds of it they have been hanging in the general area for the last 3-4 months.

Not good news for all of the game populations in this area.  Let the season begin like it is again this year in Idaho.

I have 4 trail cams out in North Stevens county. Buddies went and check them last week after a month soak.....one SD card stolen, one camera was turned off after one week and the other two had nothing but deer. All the cams were on my personal property. I will check them at the end of the month and let you all know what shows.  And yes.........we moved the cameras. I'm just glad we still have 4. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE WOLF PICS. We will see.

I hang trail cams in 117 for most the year and have yet to see any wolves, only a matter of time though.  Lots of deer, moose and elk in the area which will equal wolves  :bash:

Thank you for this Post. We have added this information to our website: Stevens County Assembly.

http://www.StevensCountyAssembly.com/ (http://www.StevensCountyAssembly.com/)

We have also started a Wolf Tracking center for Stevens county and requesting info from the community. Please contact us if you have more intel.

Also, if we can gather GPS numbers we will create a location map.

PS: A lot of people report wolf kills, that were actually cat kills -- but the wolfs arrived at the kill and chased the cat off and the foot prints around the kill cover up the cat tracks.

As most of you know you have to look a broader area of tracks, also was the kill dragged  a distance - like cats do?

Welcome to the site, SCA. We saw plenty of wolf tracks in Northern Stevens county this last winter, Unit 111.

I had a wolf come into my turkey set a few years back in Stevens County, it only stayed for a few seconds and took off up the hill.
