Well, after editing that wolf video and getting it posted I realized just how easy it was to do with Windows Movie Maker. I went ahead and edited up my 2010 late buck BT. Don't think I've shared pictures or a story yet.
Anyways, here it is. Starts out with the shot, then walking down to him, and finally a post hunt interview/story. All solo. Enjoy.

Also, I didn't end up having the buck mounted, just didn't have the money handy to justify it. I did have Charlie do a euro on it, and he was generous enough to give me shop credit for the cape since I took care of it. Haven't yet seen it in person, but it looks amazing in the picture Charlie posted.

nice! :)

Hell ya, nice video man. I feel like I got 4 days of hunting last year instead of 3 :chuckle:. Awesome!!

Very nice video keep up the great work!!!

Great video and shooting man! Looks like an awesome time!

Thanks guys. I can't wait to get my hands on an aftermarket video editing program. My uncle has one that he never used I guess and I'm getting it when I get back to Washington. I got 2 late blacktails, 2 Idaho WT's, 4 Colorado muleys, and 3 Colorado bulls on video this past season, not to mention a couple short duck hunts and a bunch of shed hunting. Will be editing them up into a DVD for the hunting partners when I can.
Also, unfortunately I didn't buy this dang digital video camera until right before Colorado, and was just able to video my roommates first elk (Idaho spike) with an ancient camera that records on the little cassette tapes. I got my sisters moose hunt last year video'd with the same camera as well. Any idea on how I go about getting that video transferred over to digital? I wonder if I got an HDMI cable and hooked the computer up to the TV if I could somehow record it onto my computer. Or even if there is an outfit I could take it to and they could transfer it for me? Anyone know any companies or a way to do this?

Hey Alan Awesome vid! If you can't transfer that footage over yourself, you can take it to kits camera and get it put on a dvd. I used to edit some of my motocross vids that way.

Nice video and thanks for sharing.

That was a cool video, thanks man!

Congratulations, nice deer, nice shot and nice video! Sure feels good when it all comes together, hugh? Good job!
-
Thanks for the comments guys! Glad you enjoy the look in on the hunt!
And thanks for the PM's I've received. It sounds like I need both an HDMI cable and some sort of video capture card/device to get the video from my sisters moose hunt and roommates elk hunt converted to digital. I've actually got a lot of the same old little tape video of some of my youth hunts and youth football games so I wouldn't mind spending the $$ on the equipment needed to get it digital, I'd actually get some use of it. If anyone's got a good setup they'd suggest let me know, otherwise I'll get over to circuit city tomorrow or the next day and pick their brains as to what I need.

And yeah it's nice when it works out! When I was headed up into the area, I was planning on spending my time glassing that unit but that morning it was nothing but tail lights ahead of me and headlights behind me before shooting light. Was VERY discouraged at the amount of pressure during a week day. Figured I'd go and glass this spot and if I didn't see anything I'd go ahead and hit the timber and see if I could close the deal. Didn't have to, spotted this buck in the unit about 20 minutes into shooting light. :D

Alan,
PM sent. You can feel free to bounce questions off of us if you would like. We have been fighting/learning about videoing hunts over the past few years.

Cool video man! Awesome to get those kill shots on tape. We just recently a couple years ago started dragging along the video camera filming hunts. It's the perfect way to capture those memories.

Good video. A nice long shot on that guy.
-
Nice poke, man. Enjoyed your story, too. Sounds like a fun hunt in some great reprod. :)
-
AWESOME! What kind of camera are you using? Takes very nice video. Made my night watching a local blackie hunt, thanks!
-
Thanks for the comments guys!
The camera is a JVC Everio GZ-HM300BU. Picked it up at Walmart for half price when they moved from Moscow over to Pullman. It works good enough. The quality is much better than what YouTube plays it like. YouTube only lets it play up to 480p I think while the camera records in 1080. Don't know a whole lot about it other than that. I'm sure the quality isn't TV grade, but it works great for hunting DVD's for the hunting party!
And yeah, I love blacktail hunts! My uncle shot a meat spike the day after and I got that all on video too. It was one heck of a hunting season made that much better by the fact that I got 90% of it documented with the video camera. I didn't get all the kill shots on camera because it was often in the heat of the moment, but got plenty of footage to remember it by.

Very cool vid, good job!

I think one thing your video does a great job of showing is that with the right skill set, practice, and equipment knowlege you can hunt ethically at long ranges. You make one hell of a shot when it counts and that doesn't happen by chance. Especially not on camera. So good on you for putting up a cool vid and showing some real skills. I know, I know, you aren't a real hunter unless you shoot a .300 Win Mag and stalk to 40 yards. Save it. Plenty of threads to comment on regarding that. I just wanted to say nice kill, better vid, and great deer to be proud of. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks H20, I do a lot of shooting in the off season, and even more since I started reloading before last season. I was prone with the bipod spread and my pack beneath the butt of my rifle. Practically sand bagged in. Wind was negligible, more thermals than anything else. You can actually hear shortly before I shoot that I dry fire my rifle and then put one in the chamber before the shot. It was a practice run to make sure I could calm my breathing and hold a bead throughout the trigger pull. I was able to and was confident, let it fly, and the rest is history!
I did hit him a bit high in the back though. I actually needed 7.37 MOA or 29.5 clicks, but because my scope adjusts in 1/4s rather than 1/8s I opted to round up to 30 clicks. I knew if that VLD dropped in to the boiler room great, and if it ended up a touch high it would come apart on the spine. That's exactly what it did. At the end of the video you could see the bulge in his back. That was where the bullet blew out about a 4" circle of spine and the gut bag was actually trying to swell out of there. Never seen such a damaging bullet!
You're dead on when you say that with the right skill set, practice, and equipment knowledge you can hunt ethically at long ranges. I'd still take a nice BT buck in the vine maple and alder patch with the bow over something like this any day, but it's still awesome nonetheless!
