After being a serious bowhunter for over 30yrs I think I am all muzzleloader this year .. after seeing all these elk tags I need to do it ..time to put the .54 cal to work .. Now that I can use a jacketed bullet I think some sh$t is going to die .. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Love the attitude. Muzzy for elk this year. My uncle Bob bought me a muzzy over 15 years ago. A Hawkins .54 model from Cabelas....that gun has killed more deer than I can claim.
-
I usually muzzleload elk ,but went rifle this year.
-
Bowhunted for 30+ years had to quit due to shoulder injury.Started muzzleloading a couple years ago just love shooting it,killed a nice cow last year. Wish I would have done it sooner.Lots of fun and a lot less people to contend with. :IBCOOL:
-
yeah it is fun .. I have killed a couple with a muzzleloader back when you could hunt area 336 .. it is fun .. I finally got my big bull with my bow so it should be cool to have a change ....cant wait now that I am thinking about it ...Back in P.A when I was a kid it was all flintlock which was fun back then ..I dont care as long as I have elk steaks ....
-
been all muzzy for 7 years. Seasons are way better. Not as many people. I think I saw more bow hunters last year than I did muzzy hunters. Muzzy has gotten a little crowded over the past few years due to the 9 day season. Wish they would go back to 7 and get rid of a few people. Love the smoke pole!
-
My Son and I havve been packing muzzies for over 10 years. Taken lots of elk and a few deer with them. Unfortunately the muzzy seasons are gtting as crowded as modern.
-
muzzy elk westside last four or five years good times
-
Ive got 9 points this year so im going for my first big bull. I hope I draw. Figure it would be a good chance if i do get draw.
-

Kind of the same here. The last few years tried muzzy, but going to break out the rifle this year. Last year there were so many muzzy hunters mainly because the limited units that I figured I'd go back to rifle. During rifle the roads are crowded, but the hunters are spread out over more units. That and last year I dealt with so much rain during the late season that it was too iffy as to whether or not the thing would make a bang.

I never did do the bow hunting thing, but I started hunting with a muzzleloader a few years back and now that is the only thing I hunt with. Even during a regular rifle seasons - i go muzzleloading. It is very infectious..
Muzzleloader and elk... works well...

This will be my first serious year. I bought a CVA .54 cal about 15 years ago. Took it out, missed a nice doe and put it back in the safe. Haven't shot it but 2-3 times since.
We started kicking the muzzleloader thing around last year in Elk camp. My brother and dad decided they'd buy a muzzleloader and we'd all go at it together.
We're doing deer this year and if things go well, may try elk next.
I'm excited.
-
love it,used to archery hunt but hurt my shoulder went to muzzleloader never looked back.
Bob

Been Muzzy for 20 years or more. Once you start it just gets in your blood.
-
this will be my first year muzzleloading, four of us from a long history of rifle hunting, are going to pack in and try it.
-
Yeah gotta love the muzzy! For eastside deer its a kick.. you're hunting the same deer the rifle guys are but two weeks earlier
-
MUZZY hunting sucks.. You wont like it.. The guns always miss fire. No animals to be seen cause the archery hunters are so noisy they scare them all away ;) Go back to what you know :chuckle: :chuckle:

I guess I have to agree. There are at least four deer still walking these woods because of the trouble with misfiring that I have had with my smoke pole that were well within bow range. I aint giving up though because I love shooting that black powder. I just have to figure out this problem with my nipples (not to get too personal :chuckle:)

6yrs and counting
-
Use to rifle hunt....... ML elk for over ten years now...... Just switched to ML deer last year and I'll never go back..
-
I've been using muzzy for both deer and elk almost exclusively since the mid '90s. Last year I picked up a modern deer tag. :bash: All that did was to reaffirm my utter disgust of that season. I will not make that mistake again. Not only that but I try not to even enter the woods while the modern guys are out. I will stick with muzzy and occasionally throw in an archery hunt just to mix things up a bit.
-
Will muzzleload for deer this year. Modern rifle for elk. Like most everyone else, keeping the fingers crossed for special hunt draws.
-
this year will be my 2nd year muzzy elk. Rifle for deer.
-
going to muzzy hunt till I fill my quality and bull elk tags, then switching to bow. Can't wait to hunt any bull on the west side with my bow and not have to wait 16+ years for a fn tag.
-
I have been muzzleloading for three years, and taken four deer (three over-the-counter, and one on a 'Second Deer' tag), three of them with a Knight Bighorn (great gun). I would love to get back to archery again some day, but for now, muzzleloading is an absolute blast! (Pun intended). And one can take antlerless in many units, which fits my primary objective of putting meat away for winter.
-
Hunting for 16 years only with a bow. First compound then switched to recurve. Still love my bow, but real selective where (state) I hunt with it to get away from the crowds.
Took up muzzleloading about 16 year ago.Mostly just hunt these days with muzzleloader. New to washington, still trying to figure it out.
I'm from Idaho and Nevada. Know Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and W. Montana like the back of my hand.
Many good places to hunt, get away from the crowds if you know the places to go.
-
I hunt with a muzzy!
-
15 years blowin smoke
-
Hunted Muzzy 5 years now for elk. Love it.
-
Been using the smoke pole for a few years now. Absolutely love it!

Couldn't agree with you more Fair Chase, I did the same thing last year. Only with both deer and elk :bdid: NEVER AGAIN!
-
Started out with the muzzleloader. When the state closed my GMUs to muzzy elk and shortened the season I switched to moderen. Now I do both, reluctantly...muzzy for deer and modern for elk.
-
This will be my third season with muzzleloader and I love it. Took this guy with my hawkins last year.
-
I have a T/C Grey Hawk .54 I bought 20 years ago. Killed 1 deer. Tried elk hunting up in the Selkirks 6 years ago and that was it. I'm thinkin' this year might be a good choice.

Seriously??? I think the late archery season is the worst. I've never seen so many road hunters. And they say its more of a challenge.....
