Title: teanaway moose pics.
Post by: danderson on May 19, 2011, 09:52:34 PM
I think I figured out how to resize my photos to post on here, it only took 3 hours to do one, anyway this is the moose that I spotted up the teanaway valley last year while archery deer hunting, I had heard that there was one spotted last summer swimming across lake cle elum, but never expected to come face to face with a moose, we stood and staired at each other long enough for me to dig my camera out of my pack snap about 10 photos, he was about 30 yards away, he turned and slowly walked away, I spotted him in an area that is private property and I only told 2 people were that was , so with luck we may be axpanding the moose areas some time in the future, also a buddie of mine spotted what appered to be a smaller bull last week in a different location up the valley floor.

That's great! But I sure hope there's a cow moose or two around that area, or the moose population in the Teanaway won't be increasing anytime soon!

that would be cool !!, except I would have to start hunting East-side again, just to run into one of those..
I have only seen, 5 moose in the wild in washington, and those were all NE. (Republic, Spokane, Sprague, 49 degree (near the ski resort)

Weirdest thing I ever saw was a cow moose in a wheat field north of Pomeroy along the Snake River.

Still waiting to see pics post of the griz that lives in the area ;) but cool on the moose and I had heard about the moose in the lake which is a bit of a distance from Teanaway I wonder what sort of population there really is?  seems critters manage to hide in the woodwork in that area its where I heard my first wolves back in the late 90's

Thats good to see, we have some moose moving in around my neck of the woods also. I've been trying to get some trail cam pics of them but it seems there constantly on the move. They seem to love the thick unpassable swamp land. Bring on the central wa moose herd!

Yep they're up in them hills.  I know where they took the ones they caught in Wenatchee a few years ago.  Perfect habitat for em.  If it keeps up we might have a population in a few years.

spoke to my a buddie of mine last night and they spotted the first newborn moose calf last week up in the teanaway, also spotted another smaller bull and cow. if the wolfs dont kill them off it wont be long before theres a healthy population.

my buddy saw one up the middle fork around a month ago.  I was up looking for him last tuesday.  Didn't get a chance to see him.  I heard that rumor last year that one was swimming across the lake to.  Hard to believe.  I guess it's true.   You have some pretty good proof.  I believe my buddy but he didn't have pics.

That's good news.  Unless there is a pack of wolves out there I think the moose are fine.  I dont think 1-2 wolves can take down an adult moose but a pack could.  The calves on the other hand could be taken down by a cougar and wolf.

Kool Pics! Good news that they are there!.
If there are wolves they would hopefully be native and not the Northern subspecies (transplants) and are few and far between. I have seen a native wolf  near 4 corners/Swift Creek on the Colockum years ago.
About the same time there was a moose road killed between Lynden and Blaine areas.

I worry about the two-legged wolves.  Moose, especially large antlered ones, become targets for poachers.  In my home state of Montana, a unit I hunted never recovered after someone went on a spree and killed several road-side moose.

yes, poachers are the other concern, theres a bunch of locals that would love to get 10 points for turning one in.

The resurgence and expansion of moose in Washington, and the corresponding increase in hunting opportunities, is one thing I think has been managed correctly by WDFW.

One of these days...

dont worry bout the wolves. they will all be turned loose in seattle, bellevue, olympia and bellingham, right where all the people that want them to be so they can see them every day. see their work pay off....besides, just giant coyotes as far as f&g is concerned. only areas with wolves are up n.e. btw, very nice pics. maybe i run into a few and post pics later as well

I know of three wolves that have been seen by to different people up between ronald and roslyn last year.  One was seen following a wounded elk during bow season walking through my buddies property.  The other three were seen my another friend in the same area.  I hate to hear it.  I spend a ton of time in the woods , I mean a ton.  I haven't heard or seen a wolf in the teanaway area.  It doesn't mean they aren't here.  Both of the people who saw these wolves are reliable sources.  :bash:
