Yes we are headed out in the lovely weather, and yes this guy is having his girlfriend write this for he is getting us lost somewhere around fife. We might make it to actually hunt today, traffic is not as bad as expected. Enjoy your memorial weekend.

Good luck! Drag a big one out of that brush hole this weekend.
-
Tried doing some calling before setting up camp but had no luck
-
good luck!!!
-
use alot of Fawn now. even elk calf. good luck. Rick ;)

Rick I have not seen any bear sighn at all so should I just pick a spot and call or keep trying to find some sighn?
-
If I were you, I would keep on looking around for sign. Just calling may turn up a bear eventually, but calling in an area where bears have been working would better your odds. :twocents:

Over off of the 6000 is were I've seen most bear action. Swampy area's or jack firs try and call them. It doe's not hurt to call please mix it in. Rick

Hunt the food.
-
So far the only thing I see for food is grass cause there is not much else grown up yet
-
Grass, and fir trees. Maybe some skunk cabbage.
-
All the Bears I saw this past week were feeding on grass.
-
Hunted most of the day. Saw some old tree peels from last year but the was. About it. Maybe it will be better in two weeks?
-
The bears are not moving far from food sources.
Right now that would be grass, salmon berry blossoms, dandelions and skunk cabbage. They will also be tearing into stumps and logs any day now as well as looking for fawns.
These would be the areas to hunt over and possibly call over.

Found a huge clearcut area that has alot of grass and salmon berry bushes so I will be hunting it till it gets dark tonight
-
But did it have bear sign?
-
I did find one pile of bear scat in the clear cut but ended up not seeing anything. I think it is still to early. Talked to some guys that said they have hunted it the last four years and they told me that it should be better in two weeks if the weather is better. I will be out on the 11th and 12th of next month.

I have hunted that unit spring and fall and I can tell you that you will only find bears where you find fresh sign. Right now the bears are feeding heavy on the above mentioned sources and the boars are starting to look for love.
Find the fresh sign and you will find bears.
