Title: May 30th gobbler down!
Post by: Major Caruncles on May 30, 2011, 08:28:30 PM
Just received these via picture message from Huntfor1. Don't have much for a story, all i know is that this bird strutted to about 40 yards and was with 5 hens when he layed the smack down!! Wish I could've been there, awesome to put a bird down this late in the season.

Thanks for posting my bird Major... Ya, I wish you could of been there too. You got the story right. I got onto the property where we got our opening day birds and sat up in the NE corner for 3 hours. I decided not to put any decoys out and I did not call at all. At 6pm I heard this boy gobble from the other side of the property. I closed the distance and barely had enough time to lay down behind a rock when he and his hens came over the top. He strutted for about 20 minutes at 50 yards, until the hens led him closer. I had to shoot him from prone position. Bird #2 down at 7pm exactly. I guess we'll have to wait until the fall to get your second bird...
