I can supply the gunny sack and flashlight in PRIME snipe country, what do you have to offer.
-
I've got lots of halogen fluid to make sure the flashlight keeps working
-
WHATS A SNIPE? :dunno:

WHATS A SNIPE? :dunno:
you sound like a prime candidate for some snipe hunting. It's not in the wildlife management plan so there are no bag limits yet. Shoot machias a pm and maybe he will hook you up.
-
Sounds like time for you to book a guided hunt. I could help with that
-
:chuckle:I HAVE I BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS
-
SO,.. SNIPE ARE THOSE LITTLE BIRDS WITH LONG BEAKS,.. HOW DO YOU HUNT THEM? WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THEM?
-
They have really wild flight patterns and fly low within the trees. Seems that open chokes worked best for them.
-
Dude, you don't know what your missin, and they are damn good eating, a lot like grouse but doesn't dry out as easy.

SNIPE ARE IN THE REGS. LIMIT IS 8. SAME SEASON AS WATERFOWL
-
What do you have to swap a hunt for them? It's alot of fun snipe hunting!!
-
I thought you needed to hunt them at night with flashlights and gunny sacks and lots of alcohol, not guns.

Best tasting bird there is. Better than huns, pheasants, chukar...anything. The word "sniper" comes from old British hunters that were skilled enough to kill them regularly. If you get a chance to go, jump on it...
-
Maybe I was thinking of seabats ?
-
LOL I DUNNO WHAT I HAVE TO SWAP. LOL BUT IT SOUNDS INTERESTING. HOW BIG ARE THESE BIRDS? AND IF ITS SO FUN,.. WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THEM UNTILLNOW?? :yike:

I guided a snipe hunt once. Took a young lady snipe hunting when I was in high school. Snipe hunting is tough though, she didn't have any luck.
I did.
-
I learned snipe hunting from my Uncle back in the Missouri Ozarks, it's a midwestern tradition, most folks up here don't know about all the great snipe hunting the NW has to offer. Some of the best in the world actually.
-
OK,.. WELL I GOOGLE SNIPE HUNT,.. :chuckle: :bash: :bash: SOUNDS FUN :IBCOOL: I GOTTA TRY IT. :chuckle:

Good snipe hunting in the Blues. Jim knows that and so does Pathfinder.
I know this may come out in this discussion, and they will likely try and cover it up. Don't let them fool you.
:hello:
-
Oh shoot no I won't hide that. They are too quick for the sasquatch to catch, I'd be glad to take a newbie out. I bet I could get pathfinder to come along to.
-
but seriously though,.. does anyone hunt snipe? they're in the regs. :dunno:

My wife says I can't.
I think she heard the story about my single snipe-guiding-experience back in high school that I mentioned earlier... :dunno:

Heck yeah, like I said I can take you out. I'll talk to Pathfinders wife and tell her I am chaperoning. I'm sure that would work. If you are headed to Spokane drop Machias a line, I bet he would take you out.
-
Our duck/goose lease in Sequim has a lot of them, we just whack them when they fly by our ponds. One guy even uses his 10GA with #2s on them, I prefer a 20GA. :twocents:

...f%$#!ing Google...ruins everything... :P

All my boys LOVE snipe hunting. For the best results, you need to whistle loudly as well...not sure if they've made a specific call for them yet??
I may have a picture of their adventure...not sure.

Was on a couple great snipe hunts when I was young... dad was always willing to point me in the right direction from bear camp, somewheres about 10-midnight, after he and the guys had downed a few cold ones...
-
Snipe hunting is always better after a few cold ones, and nobody ever seems to get hurt.
I hate google. I was working up this whole great plan
-
I'm from Missouri guys and snipe hunting is a favorite past time i would be willing to help a new be out on there first hunt. i still have my sacks somewhere

if you cant go out and whistle in a couple a snipe with a gunny sack and flashlight then you shouldnt get to hunt them with a shotgun, its like a right of passage....

It's only funny 'till someone loses an eye...wait! It's only funny if someone loses an eye!
-
I remember my first snipe hunt, I was the hunter and I was determined, they are pretty darn smart though, stayed out till about midnight and never got a one.
On later hunts I took others hunting and it was a more successful hunt on those trips.
Beginner, you really need to go, you have no idea what you are missing out on, it is a great experience, and once you learn how to do it, you can take others. :twocents:
-
The key to snipe hunting is the vocalization. It's kind of a cross between a whiperwhil and a Kildeer. Sounds like LOOKUPHEEER!

It kind of sounded to me as if Pathfinder's wife took his sack away from him... :peep: good thing you were able to keep yours
-
Wish I could go. With all the grouse, deer and elk hunting going on now, I just don't have time to fit another hunt in. I would have been willing to part with a few of the Sasquatch steaks I have stinking up the freezer for a good snipe hunt!

Snipe have been wiped out in our area by Wolves. Also found Sasquatch hair in some Wolf scat.
