I ordered the Disc Extreme from Knight and a Western Kit. They Emailed back and told me they would send the rifle with just the western kit installed at no extra charged but after seeing all the pictures of Sabotloaders Muzzy on here I told them to send both. They did send the rifle with both 209 and cap breech plugs as well as the conversion kit. My question is did you have to alter the 209 bolt at all to get the bolt to fully close over the cap breech plug. On my rifle the bolt stops just short of closing completely. The difference in the length of the two different breech plugs seems to make the difference as to whether th bolt will close or not.
Thanks

I think that was an excellent decision, it really gives you some additional options…
They did send the rifle with both 209 and cap breech plugs as well as the conversion kit.
Which 209 setup did they send? The NFPJ – bare primer adapter or the FPJ – full plastic jacket? I am going to assume the FPJ using the little red plastic jackets…

No you should not need to do that. Which leads me to the second question?

Your assumption is probably correct but I would need to know a couple of things… When Knight sent you the Western Conversion, did it contain another bolt?
Like the one shown in this picture?

Or does it look like the second bolt in this picture? I am assuming again thinking you might have got this one – it is the new one 2011.

Next question do you have a micrometer?
From your answers I will be able to tell you more…

OK from your pictures and looking at things further I was able to answer my question.
The reason why the 209 bolt won't close all the way is because of the collar which pulls the plastic jacket off of the nipple. It appears that you have an older system. I got the old model conversion bolt which of course works fine but I kinda like the idea of the extra protection that the new model bolt provides. So next question. When will the new model western conversion kits be available?
Thanks for the help and all the info you have posted on knight rifles.

They may be available now... or very close to now... Call Knight and ask about the new Western Conversion bolt?
I really wish I could see the NEW Extreme bolt, I know that Lehigh is building them but I am unsure of the suttle changes they may have made.
The bottom bolt is the new Western Bolt... same as the new Extreme Bolt minus the adapter lip...

Does this work
You bet worked great...
Did you get the lower bolt with your new gun? or is it one that you had on hand?
Is the top bolt the new FPJ bolt that came in the new rifle? It looks like it is...
In your other post I think you indicated that the lip for the primer adapter or to extract the FPJ was hitting the Western Breech plug???
So then did you try a different bolt or the Western Bolt?
I would really try to get one of the new Western Bolts from Knight if you can - it might just be a matter of time.

I ordered both, I could have gotten the rifle with just the western kit installed but requested that they go ahead and send both.

Yes it is.

Yes it does, the bolt will close but not fully seat. It only needs about a sixteenth of an inch and it would work. If the edge of the nut on the breach plug were beveled around the edge it would probably work.
So then did you try a different bolt or the Western Bolt?
Your pictures are what originally what made me think the FPJ bolt might work, I didn't realize that the older system was that much different. I made sure to get both bolts in case it didn't work like I thought, which it didn't.

I plan on it.

The only thing I can compute from all of this is that the lip in the new production bolt is that much taller than the older production bolts, because it should work with the FPJ bolt.
I am really hoping that Knight will switch Western Bolts with you, if they have any yet.
Another thought to keep in mind... I am quite sure that I can make you FPJ bolt work with the Western BP, but still in all the new Western Bolt is truly better and more easily used with the Western BP.
Let me know if you are unable to get the newer Western Bolt Housing.

Talked to Knight this afternoon and asked about your bolt situation... At the time they sent your rifle to you they were still testing the new Western Bolt, Gordy said if you sent your current Western Kit back - they will ship you the new kit... which includes the modification in the bolt and the breech plug - so maybe send them both back and let them know what you would like to do...

Just talked to Gordy @ Knight... If you want the new Western Conversion kit (and you do we just made another change) send your original Western Conversion back to Knight with ATTENTION: Gordy Edwards and he will get the newest variety out to you.
