So I know very little about bow hunting, but my plan has always been to buy my three boys a BB gun for their 4th birthday. My oldest was super excited and we shoot often. Now my second wants nothing to do with a BB gun, he wants a Bow!!! I have no problem with him wanting to hunt with a bow, but his cousin has a plastic bow from Wal-Mart or something and he doesn't want that one. He wants a real compound bow like the ones we watch on the hunting shows. Do they make them for a 4 year old? If so, Rainier Archery in Graham is the closest to me, so I was thinking about heading out there. If anyone has any advise, things to look for, or just opinions. I don't want to spend a ton of money just in case he doesn't like it, but I also don't want the plastic one from Wal-Mart. If he likes it and wants to bow hunt, then I want to start him off right. Thanks for all you input.

Go see Larry at sportsmans warehouse in Fed. way he would love to help the youngster out with a decent starter set up

Here is my 2 year old with his sisters (4 yo) bow, too bad yours wants a compound, Maddog archery makes some cool recurves and longbows...

Diamond makes a real nice kids bow I looked at it today for my 3 year old. Its 199 bucks but it is completely set up.

They make decent cheap-o kids compounds too... The Bear Brave series, etc. If you spend big bux on a youth bow, make sure it'll grow with 'em for awhile, my 7yo is on his 3rd bow and almost ready for a "real" youth bow. (If I remember right, he has a Brave III now.) I'd have hated to have spent $2-300 on all of 'em and have him grow out of them so quick. Fundamentals are more important than a flat shooting bow in these single digets.

my 6 year old and my 5 year old both have been shooting the nuclear ice for a year and a half now and the bows look just like the bigger compounds but they fit the kids perfect. The bow is supper adjustable and shoot last till about puberty.

for kids use the bear brave isnt to bad, the strings on it are crap but the bow itself isnt bad.

Thanks everyone. I'll start doing some leg work, but you have pointed me in the right direction.

stiknstring, that is a cool lookin' recurve. Where'd you get it? I have a 4 year old that's been beggin for a bow too. He's snapped the two toy bows I got him pulling them to full draw; time to get him something stouter... ;)

Actually, she won it in a drawing on Tradgang, but it is a Maddog "Pup" , look up Maddog Archery they make several variations, you get to choose wood, etc..
P.S. my girls have longbows also made by Maddog, I have them all set up for 3D shooting, every kid has a bow with weights of 12#, 18#, and 20#, kids are 2,5, and 8 !
