Good looking pup
There are several members here that will have some good input for you.
I meet with Pat Murphy a couple times to evaluate my dog and do a couple dog/owner trainings. He is realativly close to Seattle http://www.northwestperformancedogs.com/index.htm (http://www.northwestperformancedogs.com/index.htm)

I agree with bluemoon get out and talk with trainers I wish I would have before I sent my pup to the first trainer I used. I will say that doug burnett at upland dogs is very good. My pup was showing intrest in pointing when he got her and she was rock solid on all her points when we picked her up. I want to say it was 850 for 4 weeks of training. She got 3 to 4 birds a day plus obidience.
Also when ypu send your dog off I think its important to go over and work with the trainer and the dog. The trainer can do a great job with training the dog but it doesn't do you any good if you don't know how to handle the pup when you pick her up.
Good looking pup by the way

I have heard there is a big price difference between pointers trained here, and trained in the midwest to south... something like $450 a month diff...
I have heard people talking about the value of shipping a pointer for trainining in the dakotas for example...

Do you have the time to train the dog yourself? You might find it more rewarding. Either way, good looking dog.

With a GSP I would take a good look at Dan Hoke in Spokane. http://www.dunfur.com (http://www.dunfur.com) He has a pretty good reputation in the GSP community and has the GSP Field Trial credentials to back it up. You also need to do a lot of research and decide what you want from your dog. Do you want a trainer who will force fetch your dog if needed? Do you want a completely broke dog, or is steady to wing steady enough? How about work on wild birds? A dog trained on wild birds will have a huge leg up on a dog only trained on pen raised released birds, and not many trainers train on wild birds.

This is 100% true. My dad is making the long trip out to S.D. just after the 4th of July to drop his 1 year old Brit off for summer camp with my trainer outside Winner S.D.. He will pay 50% less per month then he would if the dog was being trained in the NW, and it will get 5-10X as much bird work, on wild birds. The only draw back is the cost to drive out to S.D. and back...... However, Im meeting him out there in September when he picks up his pup and we are going to hunt sharptail for a couple days over both our dogs while the trainer teaches my dad how to handle his dog. So it makes the trip a lot easier when you combine it with a hunting trip.... My dog goes out every summer for camp in S.D. You'd be amazed at the amount of work a trainer can get done in just a couple months with the amount of wild birds. And you'd be suprised how much cheaper it is.

a lot of people put the dog in for basics for a few weeks then return and "day train". This way, you get to enjoy your dog as a pet and good buddy. If you want a hunting/competition machine, sending it off for long periods of time is the way to go. If you want to enjoy your dog, sending him off to a trainer sucks. (in my mind)
In the past I trained with a pro for a long time. All weekends and any days off I had I spent there for a few years. Now usually try to train with the other amateurs as often as possible. I'm going to get back into the mix and start weekend training with more pro's the rest of the summer because my schedule allows for it again. Every trainer is better at something than another and people willing to learn can absorb a lot from different people. I wouldn't recommend this with a dog in early development but, then again, someone different always has ways of doing things that are better than the other guy.

sir i would go to Quicksilver kennels in moses lake wa. because i had my gsp there and this hunting season i shot every single one of my birds off of her and she is steady to wing and shot retrieves to hand and is whoa broke. we also got a pointing lab 10 years ago and he was trained by RJ to he was our main hunting dog until last year but we have honestly seen retrieves and points from him that we thought were possible.I highly recommend Rj to train your dog. his num. is (509)765-1213 id give him a call and check him out. GOOD LUCK
