Saw these sheep a couple weeks ago. Some nice Rams
-
Been watching that group since mid Jan. There is some nice rams in that group
-
Great pics keep em coming!
-
Brings back some good memories, I recognize those rams. Keep the pics coming.
-
Wow! They look very horny!
-
Awesome thanks for sharing!! Ridge- did they grow?? :)
-
There are some decent rams left.
-
BOOM!!
-
Do you rally take that shot? Keeping in mind that you probably won't be that close to that many during the season, do you really take a chance on a once in a lifetime animal, blood pumping, adrenaline flowing...? One slight flinch and you take out the ham of that little guy. I think I'd wait a few seconds for them to spread out a bit. That's the one I would shoot though. Sheep experts... is that the best one?
-
:chuckle: lol No, I wouldn't take that shot, I would hit the little one for sure. That is the one I would single out though.
-
I'm not expert but what about the one in the far back whose left side is hidden by the sheep in front of him. I think he has potential too but would need to see the rest of him
-
pictures are a wonderful thing , but in the field it is a whole new story. nice pics all i can say is some day i will be faced with a decision like that. :dunno:
-
Sheep experts... is that the best one?
No! ;)
-
Yeah, I think that one in the back that is hidden is better now that I study them. Horn looks heavier as it goes towards the tip. I know absolutely zero about judging sheep though. I try not to get too interested in them so as to avert the dreaded SOS (sheep obsession syndrome).
-
too risky of a shot with all of them so close, out of that group that is probably the best ram though, he was my #1 ram until about three weeks before the season I thought he was the one. But he is still on the hill today.
The ram that has part of his horn hidden is a good one too but the horn you can't see was broomed quite a bit, he was a dandy though.
Can't tell you how many hours of my life I lost looking at all those pics last summer dreaming of rams, it was alot, lol.
-
Yeah that back ram looks nice as well
Ridgerunner are you jsut watching the sheep threads and dreaming again already :chuckle: That raffle tag in your pocket ain't no good :chuckle: I will get the winner this year ;) YEAH RIGHT!!!
-
The biggest ram in the chelan unit died last winter/this spring of old age. He was a true monster cali.
-
I love watching those guys. As I type this they are about .71 miles from my house!!
-
There are a couple big boys in that herd for sure! Put in for that unit first choice 2 years in a row, probably never get the tag.
-
Personally I kind of like the ram on the right. The ram that you "dotted" and the ram on the right are close to the same score...the ram in the back that is hidden would probably score the best. Between the ram you dotted and the ram on the right it is a personal preference on horn type. Personally, I like the look of converging horns (that and they typically score higher than diverging horns that "look" to be the same size)
I can pretty much guarantee I have wasted many more hrs than most looking at pics/live rams...its crazy addicting (sheep hunting)

Did you have your LaCrosse boots on that day ?
-
That's good to see. That herd has deffently grown over the last few years.
-
Dang that makes me want one now .... definately a couple dandys...
-
OK, my question is - how does it taste?
The horns look great for sure, but how does the meat taste on these sheep. I have hair sheep and love the meat. I have never eaten big horn sheep before but would love to find out.

I also raise hair sheep. I have never ate bighorn but I would bet it is pretty close to what our hair sheep are like.

Found the forum a few days ago and have been checking out the posts. I was lucky enough to draw the Chelan Butte tag this year. Out scouting I have seen some good rams, definitely recognize some in the pictures. I'm looking forward to trying the meat, heard it's excellent. I am not a sheep expert, so would definitely take some advice.

Looks like 3 good rams to me. Which ever gives you the best shot angle I think. The one you dotted was my first choice also. Awesome pictures!
-
I stopped and watched 4 rams by the Beebe bridge 2 weeks ago they crossed the road and went down to the river for a drink. Made me a little nervous cars are driving fast through there. Great shots you got there!
-
Congrats Matty, nice tag and fun hunt, good luck.
-
Good luck! What a chance to have! Keep us updated...
-
Some great pictures here  Congrats on the tag Matty and welcome to the site :hello:

Where do the manson sheep hange out. Going to be there in August, would like to show the family and take pics.
-
cant find any pics. on the search?
-
Don't know about any sheep in Manson, but quite often they are right along the road on 97A from All Seasons RV to well past the Swakane Canyon entrance. I've seen them at the mouth of Swakane Canyon too, just as you start up into the canyon. Right now they're putting in more fence in the Swakane area to keep them off the highway.

I haven't had time this past week to get over there, but hope to do some more scouting this week. Hopefully I will be able to get some good pictures and if I do I'll post them. Thanks again for all the info, I'm really looking forward to this opportunity.
