Title: What's your trigger weight?

Post by: nontypical176 on June 27, 2011, 10:27:21 PM: Multiple trigger weights has caused some poor shots on my part. My 22-250 is 1 lb. My muzzleloaders between 3 and 4, my big rifles all about 2 1/2 and I got a savage 17 with this stupid accutrigger that I'm not sure. Got a 45/70 thats probably 6 lbs. My pellet gun you pull halfway before its ready to shoot. I don't target practice as much as I used too and man do I have to think about which gun I'm holding. Even my 2 trigger releases for my bow are different. I have put out some poor shots on coyotes whith my light trigger on my 22-250 just getting ready for the shot, and muzzleloaders being open sites and all at longer ranges I have to really concentrate not to fudge. And I haven't even got to the shotguns. Around the house are 3 rifles ready to go with 3 completely different triggers.......and its definently made me miss on that factor alone. I like to switch things up just to keep it interesting and each gun has its uses.

Spend a couple months playing with a new gun then grab an old one and wow...what a difference. Wish there was more time to just go shooting. Gotta make time I guess.

Post by: jackelope on June 27, 2011, 10:30:28 PM: My Encore trigger is right about 3.5#. The nice thing with that rig is 3 different calibers use the same trigger/stock/action. Once you get used to the trigger, you don't get "unused" to it.

Post by: addicted on June 27, 2011, 10:40:17 PM: i adjusted my cz trigger down to about 3 pounds regular and the set trigger is probably below a pound(heavier than a lot of set triggers).....I only use the set trigger on the range while grouping since a crisp 3 pounds is my hunting prefference. :)

i've used set triggers that go off if you even think about pulling them. Some people use them every kill but not me.

how much for that custom spring? or trigger job on the a bolt? i got a 300wsm a bolt i might tune a little

It was $15 when I bought the trigger spring kit a few years ago, but I see it has doubled in price. Still a good deal. You can easily install it yourself. If I can do it, anybody can. All you need is a screwdriver.

My .300 Weatherby trigger is still set stock because 1. I don't know how to adjust it 2. I don't shoot it that much.

thats interesting because of how simple that trigger is. I myself have turned the screw out until there was really no spring pressure and i don't think i got much for misfires. Maybe too much oil on the sear?

Come to find out it is a CAST TRIGGER !!! Browning sent me one in a hurry - took about 4 days - There was a Gunsmith in Idaho making Steel ones and I was going to buy one but I lost his address - If anyone knows who sells them please let me know ! it would be a real bitch if you were squeezing the trigger on a big bull and have it break on you !

not the one with the accutrigger. I had to buy a Rifle Basix. When I tuned it, I set it too tight and the thread locker has the allen screws in permanent. All I need to do is file the sear a bit to get the trigger post to slide into in a bit more. Talking fraction of millimeters here. I don't mind it and can compensate but, my kids use this rifle too so, it needs to get fixed. Probably work on it this weekend.

yeah stevens dont come with the accutriger. i wouldnt say the stock trigger is "adjustable" per say but it is tweakable.

how do you like that rifle basix trigger?

I bought a .223 Savage without the Accutrigger as well. Came with about a 6-7 lb pull. I will second the comment about being "tweakable" but NOT "adjustable". >:( I got it dialed back to 5 lbs, but no less. I'll probably wind up buying an aftermarket trigger as well.

Works great on the range and would not recommend set trigger while hunting, period... My Marlin has the pull of 3.75, works OK... My Winchester M70 is also around 3lbs.

Post by: yorketransport on July 10, 2011, 08:09:03 AM: My trigger weight depends on the gun. Varmint/target/long range guns are in the 6-8oz range. These are shot as single shots though, so the gun isn't loaded until it's time to shoot. Everything else is 3-3.5#.

I love the surprise when the touch the trigger. My kids shot this gun and never had a problem, teach them to keep there finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. :tup:
