I can't wait until bear opens. Its hard to believe its only a month away for most of us. How many of you guys will be in the the woods August 1st? I will be but not until after work.
-
I'll probably have to wait until the first weekend. Now, I just have to find somebody that is also interested in bear hunting.....
-
Well I cant wait and I am in new areas so cant start Aug 1 :bash: :bash: I want to go right now :chuckle: :chuckle:

if you're up for a hike you can go with me the first weekend. Its close to home too.
-
That's what I'm planning on. I'm sure I can commit to the full Sat/Sun weekend of hunting. I figure we hunt two days in a row then your spot, you shoot first, I'll be backup. Next day I'll shoot and you back me up.
-
The spot I have in mind is perfect for two guys to separate and cover two of the smaller clear cuts and only be about 1/4 mile apart. I have perfect little stumps to set up on. All you have to do is let yogi pop his little head out of the woods and :mgun: :mgun: :mgun:

Done and done!

More than ready here, too. Been scouting a lot and can't wait to go get after them. There is still so much snow where I have been going, that they are concentrated low. Plan is to smoke one with the muzzy this year.
-
I would really love to stick an arrow in one.
-
You go ahead and take your bow. I'll tote my .308 and shoot what you can't reach.
-
Not gonna take off work for the opener, usually sucks anyways. I will probably go out the first weekend.

I am using my August bear hunt to trial my new Yamaha TW 200 with GPS equiped for roads and trails and my new Remington SPS .300 Win Mag. I am looking to purchase an electric caller for predators. I will bring my elk bugle along and try it out as there is elk in the area I hunt. Answer to the processing bear meat question: I had 164 pounds of bear meat I boned myself. Stewarts Meats in McKenna, WA does a great job with their receipes. I had half made into Garlic Snack and Beer Snack. It is 2 inch sausage in 16-20" folded coils. Plus the deer meat 49 pounds made into pepperoni total cost $325.00. It is a little expensive but it is worth it as everybody in the family eats and enjoys it. It is nice to put out for snacks cut up into quarter sized bits with cheese and crackers. It freezes well but don't thaw too much at a time as I found it molded up after about 3 weeks in the refrigerator.
-
Why would you bring your elk bugle :dunno: :bdid:
-
I'm pretty excited as well. I can't believe it's next month already. I think I'm going to have all of mine made into sausage.

I'm stoked for this season!!! My mountain bike is ready to roll! Still looking for my first bear. Saw 8 last year some were too far and the others never presented me a shot.
-
Bowman are you hunting with rifle or bow?
-
My area does not open till sept 1st, but someone local to me wants to go out around close by i am in for some august action.
I am in marysville
Bow or rifle
-
Is Lady Buckmark going for bear this year?
-
No, sadly she thinks bears are cute and cuddley and just wants to hug the ones we see. She also thinks all mature bears should weigh 1000lbs and be 8ft tall so every bear we see together she says "it's just a baby, lets let it grow up". We did see a large boar last year that she even said was large enough, only problem was we were on our way to my deer spot for the evening bow hunt, no cover to make a stalk on him before he saw us, nice blackie with a large crecent walking like a bull dog with that i am in charge swagger..
-
Buckmark you are welcome to join h20hunter and I.

Its down to the wire.I wont sleep a wink tonight.
i wont even attempt to sleep. im spending the rest of my night going over maps, taking notes from said maps and putting them on a little note pad that will fit into my pack.
the hardest choice i have for the night is deciding which flavor cliff bars i want to put in the pack :chuckle:
-
Layin in my hammock tent trying to get a little shut eye.......it aint happening. Decided to scout a little and try to call a yote or two in....I am pretty sure we called in a bear :yike: and it winded us.....we never saw it but it was woofing at us and it was close!! :yike:....needless to say we will be back in that spot in the morning bright and early......sleep or no sleep!!
