Post by: SilkOnTheDrySide on July 02, 2011, 04:33:10 PM
Am I reading the regs right?  Is the Cedar River Unit not open to hunting?

I would be Number 1 on my permit app if it was.  Some real bruisers in there...

Why is it not open for permit? They give it a GMU # & the Green river is open for permit.

Because it is a Seattle Watershed. None of the Seattle sheds are huntable, unless you are native.

The only areas that aren't give a GMU are the large indian reservations and national parks.

I thought i read somewere the watershed employees can hunt it..Anyway.......When i was 12 ,wich was about 1978 ,the 1st year i hunted.A friend of mines father used to drag us in there a few times to hunt.Back then there was several areas were the fence was down and covered and we just walked in.Didn't really know it at the time what it was.We never got anything in the 2 or 3 times we went in.I do remeber him getting busted in the years that followed for poaching .Not sure if it was in the watershed thou.

My wife's uncle works in the cedar, Indians do hunt in there and log.  They are taking some nice wood out of there.  He see's some big animals but not a whole lot, give it a few years after the indians open it up with some clear cut's.  The state has tried to get it open for permits but the liberal seattle folks dont want non natives in there hunting, more BS.

During the native hunts, they even limit the access to employees. They really don't want it publicized that they are letting the native's hunt and log in there.
