This is usually something I do not believe and I still have trouble believing, especially after mythbusters could not make it happen, but this picture comes from someone I know in Alaska and he thinks it was possibly full of ice the day he did this to his gun.

Sum-bitch. Totally buggered that A-bolt up. Did it mess up the action or just the barrel hopefully.

I was sitting next to someone at Kenmore when he either left something in the barrel ( cleaning jag bullet who knows) or the load he was shooting was degraded and the case detonated and exploded the rifle.
They have some of the pieces of it in the office.

The old Ed Carrs gun shop here in Spokane used to have a lot of split and bulged barrels on display. If I remember right they were mostly Damascus. Makes you wonder when you see something like that.
