Title: Powder pellet question.
Post by: sled on July 07, 2011, 05:51:07 PM: Anybody try the powder pellets in a traditional rifle or are the just made for inline rifles?

Post by: Blsum on July 07, 2011, 06:03:04 PM: As far as I know the pellets are designed for use in the inline guns. There is a shiny end on the pellets. Thats the side thats suppose to go down towards the flame. I guess it makes them easier to ignite. With a traditional gun the flame comes in from the side. I believe T/C made a side lock that had a special pyramid shaped breech plug that lifted the pellet up a little so the flame would hit the back of the pellet. For the life of me I don't remember what gun it was. Personally I preffer loose powder anyways. You get more consitant burns and ignition.

I can vouch for them not being reliable in traditional rifles, at least not when I tried them. At the time I knew nothing about muzzle loaders and still pretty new to all of it. My friend claimed to know what he was doing and said that pellets were the better choice. And by better I now know that he really just meant easier. I currently use pellets in my inline but have been considering trying loose powder too.

Post by: BOWHUNTER45 on July 08, 2011, 05:36:15 PM: Powder pellets are the sheet man .. :chuckle: Sure beats me using a fintlock when I was a kid in Pennsylvania ... still do not let ya use percussion caps and Powder pellets back their .... flintlock only which I loved doing as a kid ... still remember that CLICK BOOOOOOOM sound in my head today ,,, pLUS remember getting pi$$ed of when my gun did not fire do to moisture in my flash pan .... just good memories for sure !! :tup:
