Heading over to Plain next w/e and was wondering about any of the surrounding lakes and how the fishing was. Would like to take the boat over and do some fly fishing is possible. I see Fish lake and some others on the maps, any tips would be appreciated?

Fish Lake has a ton of fish. We have always done pretty well there. Has one of the few self sustaining populations rainbow trout (and also stocked by the state with triploids), German browns, stocked sockeye, and silvers. Bass (both small mouth and large mouth) They have a fishing dock at Fish Lake Resort (they rent boats), and you can catch fish from it. Most people slow troll 0.5-1.0 mph with a wedding ring dragging a worm/maggot/corn or Kokanee spinner and do very well. The wind can kick you off the lake if not careful. We saw a 4lb brown and a 8lb rainbow caught off the dock back in the 90s.

Over all I think you will find Fish Lake better fishing than Lake Wenatchee. The German browns, rainbows, and perch are worth fishing for. My friend always did well over by Potters Resort fishing with Wolley Buggers. But alot of people do well near the dock at the Cove. They do stock it with rainbows in the early spring. Trolling like Alchase said is a good idea. But remember the german browns might be a little sluggish yet as the lake temp is colder for this time of the year due to the high snow pack. Good luck and let us know how you do.

There are some huge browns in Fish lake. My favorite way to fish the lake is to fish terrestrials in the shallows from dawn till they stop biting and then troll big nymphs or wedding rings in the evening. You can catch lots of yellow perch during the day also. I usually use a glob of worms just off the bottom. Try the cove behind the store and you will be impressed. I was just up there a few weeks ago and caught quite a few 2-4 pound rainbows. Good luck.

Just a few miles, the maximum depth is 244 ft but you will be fishing in stuff 40 or so feet.

I agree with Sky, Lake Wenatchee the wind is always blowing hard. I have never been there without a strong wind. Fish Lake the wind comes in spurts (could not think of a better word)LOL.
