Title: Frustrated
Post by: elkslayer069 on July 10, 2011, 08:50:11 PM
Alright heres my problem. I took a dandy bobcat a year ago that i had called in with a mouth to about 50 yards. I took it to local guy that i know who has a small taxi shop. About a month after i took it to him he called and told to come out and check out the hide it had come back from the tannery. All was well. Then come to find out he had limes dease and was unaware of it. Anyway to make a long story short he has been yanking my chain telling me every couple months that he was gonna start on it tommorow. Tonight id had enough of it and told him that i would pay him for his time and what he had into it no problem. So i have the hide the form all the measurements and the hide. Now i just need to know who in sw washington i should take it to or if anybody on here would like to take on my kitty. Any help will be greatfully appreciated. - Caleb

were you frustrated because it took a year to get it complete?  I am just wondering what you are frustrated actually about? Did he tell you it would be sooner than that? I mean I get some of my capes back in a couple of months but I still go in order of what I received in.

Depends on several factors.  What it was tanned with and how long it has been tanned.  Some tans are designed for Soft Dry Tans only and some for only mountable and some that can be used for both.

You get a mountable dry tan that has been sitting in a closet for 10 years and you go to rehydrate it, it can begin to fall apart like tissue paper due to acid rot.  Other times it will be fine.  All depends on the process and tan that skin went through.

If someone brings me in a Dry Tan to have mounted I alwasy wet up a small piece of it first to see how the skin acts.  If it rehydrates well I will wet up the rest of the hide.  If it starts to disolve than the hide will stay a dry tan.
