Serious elk hunting about 10 years, Killled 7 elk
Been Elk hunting for 20 Plus years, Didn't figure them out for quite sometime...
-
3 elk camps scattered over the course of the past 10 years. Have yet to kill 1. If it wasn't spike only in the Blues though I'd have 2 6x6's under my belt (wouldn't we all :chuckle:)
I plan on kicking the elk hunting up a notch though now. Not sure why I never got into it before like I did deer hunting, but I sure want to now and plan on doing just that.
-

Could have killed 2 other Ragbulls but passed them waiting for the bigger one. Salted the tag & ate it
The Big Bull is coming in 2011 if not 2012 or 13 or very late 2014! :chuckle:

-
6 years with the rifle, 3 bulls, 2 years with the bow, nada. The last couple years I haven't really hunted much though, just a couple nights in treestands, as my areas have become overran with hunters. >:(
-
Been hunting elk since 1978 so 33 years. Hunt in Montana, Idaho and Washington many years since 1994. Thought I had all my dead elk counted up one time, but then remembered a couple, so gotta be honest I can't say how many I've killed. But I can't say the last time I did not have elk meat in the freezer. Can't say the number is 33, but it's probably over 25. But I kill them all, first legal elk I see is going in the freezer. I know Dad is well over 40, younger brother most likely has more than me.
-
Since I was 12 and i'm 27.... so 13 years. And I've killed 2 elk - one spike and one cow.
I know my math doesn't quite add up (I missed two elk seasons for football playoffs while I was in high school).
-
Since I was 14 and I'm 21 now. Made elk camp every year but two and have killed two spikes, both with my 338 A bolt. Got an X bolt this winter and hopefully I'll be able to take an elk with it this fall
-
been hunting for 23 years and have got one elk.and no i have not hunted elk every year.oh yah and i didnt even get to keep the elk. dont ask very long story.
-
30 years . 6 cows 1 spike 1 4x5 all archery will add 1 big bull this year . i have the oeaches ridge rifile tag :IBCOOL:
-
Moved here from back east in 1997 and had never seen an elk before. Started hunting a few years later and thanks to a couple great mentors I have been blessed by filling my archery elk tag 5 times in 9 seasons, all bulls (including a late season bull calf) :cue:
Sure is interesting to see the success represented on this site. thanks for sharing you guys ... thumbs up to all my blood brothers that go out and get after it, tags full or not.
-
This will be the 10th year. Three elk in the past 9 years all with the bow.
-
1 cow, 2 spikes, 7 branches since 1981...and I took a break in there for 5 years when i ran the mill in Everett.
Cow and spikes all out of eastern WA...all the branches off the Olympic Penninsula
-
11 years with a bow, 8 elk , 5 bulls
-
I think that I have elk hunted 7 or 8 days in WA and killed 4 raghorn bulls, all general season archery.
-
Surprising results on this thread. I've been hunting elk since 1985 and have probably taken 25 since then. Several with each rifle, bow, and muzzleloader. Probably the most with muzzleloader. Maybe 10-11 bulls with most of those being 5 or 6 points. Mostly in Idaho.
-
22 years 12 bulls a few cows.
-
26 years of Elk hunting. 15 elk, 2 bulls with bow, 11 bulls with rifle and 2 cows with rifle. all in Washington state.
-
18 years of hunting elk, 10 bulls with rifle, 1 bull with muzzle loader, 2 bulls with bow, and 3 cows with bow. All rosevelt.
-
3 years of actual hunting ( bought tags before as a kid but didnt really hunt too much was more interested in deer) 0 elk
Same with me. Bought tags before as a kid but didnt start actually hunting until three years ago. 0 elk
same answer... been drawn for two cow tags when I was in my teens but didnt have anyone to go with.. I knew i wanted to go just didnt get the chance.
-
I'm 21 hunting elk for 8 years.1 spike 1 cow eastside rifle.1 muzzleloader cow eastside, 2 archery cows westside, 1 6x6 archery westside. So 6 total
-
Trying to think that far back is a little sketchy, but if I think about it this is pretty close. 1 cow, 1 spike, and 18 branch bulls in a total of 28 years of elk hunting. Biggest one is a 6x7 Rosie. All westside except for the muzzleloader animals (1 cow and 2 bulls). I usually take the first legal bull I see unless it's a draw tag in a good area. Don't like tag soup. Been on a little bit of a roll the last few years. 4 bulls in 4 years. These are mostly rifle bulls with 3 muzzleloader mixed in.
-
6 years, 2 rag horn bulls with ML.
-
12 years 3 elk 1 muzz 1 archery 1 rifle
-
I think that I have elk hunted 7 or 8 days in WA and killed 4 raghorn bulls, all general season archery.
:o :dunno: You must have got some good raffles?????
-
I'm 18 ive killed an elk every year 1 five by six 1 five point 4 spike. Ive learned it doesn't how big they are its the memories you make while hunting for ELK!
-
3 cows and one 5x6 in the last 7 years..
-
Due to high school football I wasn't able to start hunting elk until I was 19 but even then I was more concerned with partying and chasing tail. I started to get serious 5 years ago and now have killed Elk the last 4 years. Cow, 6x6, 5x5, 4x4. In that order. And yes those horn counts are counting all points (which wouldn't go over too well in my Elk camp). I am now VERY passionate about Elk hunting it is my favorite form of hunting and as my fiance would say "my addiction" :chuckle:.
-
Also I think It would be cool if everyone added some of their kills to their posts. :dunno:
-
Im 32 and this year will be number 17 for me I have 5 spikes under my belt, and the rest cows all with a modern rifle all east side. hope to add a big bull to the total this year with the Peaches Ridge bull tag first time ever being drawn for a bull tag.
-
I have killed 14 bulls in 15 years. They have all been 4x4, 4x5, and 5x5 roosevelts. Killed a rocky in Montana, but I didnt know that the bull had already been shot or at least shot at by a guy in our party.
Mine have been a mix of modern, muzzle and archery.
My passion is calling bulls in close. Wouldn't want it any other way.
-
Have bought tags for 14years but only hunted hard for 3 out of the last 4 years and have killed two nice bulls. 1- 6x6 and 1-4x5. i am a deer fanatic. i prefer hunting on my own and killing a 800 lb. animal 10 miles in by myself never really appealled to me. :chuckle: But with 13 points next year the appeal is growing. :IBCOOL:
-
10 years 1 Bull
-
3 years archery 0 Elk.
-
Since 1982 Archery = 23 bulls/4 cows, Rifle 3 bulls. Biggest bull 1984 323 P&Y. Missed a couple way bigger of course.
-

-
I started hunting elk at the age of 13 killed my first bull when I was 15 I am 27 now and have killed 10 branched bulls all in western washington belive it or not I have killed 7 of them laying my gun across the same rotten log. Year after year the (meat hole) produces.
-
I started elk hunting when I was about 19 or 20, about 18 years of those were in the white river. I'm now 42 and have hunted elk seriously for about 18 years. 2 spikes rifle, 4 rag horns rifle, 1 7x8 archery, 3 6x6's rifle, 1 cow muzzy. I've been a lucky guy to have the chance at hunting these incredible animals, I have more respect for the elk than I do a lot of people. We are blessed just to be able to smell, hear, see and hunt these elk in our state.
-
Have been buying elk tags for about 7 years to put in for draws. Drew Dayton for quality bull and shot my first elk, firearm. That is the only year I ever hunted. To many crazy's out there to spend alot of time hunting them so we just go mostly when we draw. My husband drew a cow elk tag so I will be there unless work keeps me from it.
-
33 years, 24 bulls and 2 cows. All rifle.
Only 2 in WA and neither were spikes and back in the pre-draw days. All but 2 bulls were DIY hunts.
-
19 elk, 3 archery, 3 front loader and 13 rifle. 17 bulls and 2 cows. 2 of the 3 with my front loader made Washington state book with the largest at 355, I shot it 2 years ago. For the last 15 years, I only hunt them when I draw a good tag.
-
Put in for eastside for 11 years drew a tag for peaches ridge muzzle loader. Killed a 7 x7 that scored 344. My only elk to date.
-
10 years of elk hunting; 6 branched bulls and one cow, all roosies. 4 Muzzle kills and 3 archery. If I could only have back some of those muzzle shots :bash:
-
In the last 35 yrs I've hunted Elk probably 20 yrs or so & I've killed 9 Elk. 8 of them were Nooksack Bulls & the other one was a last day Calf in Montana.
-

-
12 years with a muzzle loader 2 elk.
-
In the last 35 yrs I've hunted Elk probably 20 yrs or so & I've killed 9 Elk. 8 of them were Nooksack Bulls & the other one was a last day Calf in Montana.

-
20 years or so
1 Rifle bull 5x5
3 bulls archery 2 spikes and 3x3
1 cow with a cell phone
Yeah its a long story on the cow
In a nutshell, found it when leaving Taneum with 2 broken legs in an irrigation canal with no trespass signs everywhere it had come down off the concrete flume on the hill.
The game warden was called using the cell phone who shot it and let us tag it and hence "cell phone elk'
-
10 years 6 elk. Started in Taneum area with a 50+ year camp I was invited too. Spike only seasons without luck for 4-5 years. Went to Idaho panhandle in 2006 where I started getting into them.
-
In the last 35 yrs I've hunted Elk probably 20 yrs or so & I've killed 9 Elk. 8 of them were Nooksack Bulls & the other one was a last day Calf in Montana.
Must of been back in the good old days in the nooksack :bash:
Yep! That was before the Tribes wiped them out & got the Nooksack shut down. :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
This will be my 11th year....with a big 0 on success.
-
Been hunting since I was 11, switched to archery at 15 and I'm now 47. So, in over 30 years, only 3 elk. Plan to add another this year!
-

-
34 years Hunting Elk - 24 Elk
3 bulls Archery - 5 x 5 biggest - Could of shot a lot of smaller bulls during that time hunting archery - about 8 years but drew down on a few monster Big Bulls but couldn't thread the arrow to them in the thick stuff on the westside (Back side of Lake Quinault (Higley peak area).
A couple of cows and the rest rifle bulls - (2) 6 x 6's (1) 5 x 5 and the rest spikes and raghorns.
-
If you add up all the years hunting elk... 8 elk for 10 years. At this point I think my partner and I have finally figured it out and dialed in our skills. I credit our new found success (about 75% of it) to Paul Mendel (aka Elknut). The guy is an elk hunting genius and could turn anyone into an elk killing fool. Check out www.elknut.com
I killed my first elk with a muzzleloader at age 13. Then I didn't get to hunt due to Hockey until I was 17 and that year I killed my first elk with a bow. From then on I have killed 6 elk. The last 3 seasons have been pretty good and I hope this year goes just as well. 5 elk killed. (3 in WA and 2 in MT)
-
Few, I thought I was just a bad hunter for awhile but it seems like the general consensus isn't all that great. I've been bow hunting seriously for only about 2-3 years. (I am 18) Before that, I guess you could say I was hunting, but really just hiking :chuckle:. That was a period of about 5 years. What do I have to show for it? Nothing :IBCOOL: However, I am really starting to take off I think. Each year I hunt harder, have new skills, and now I can call successfully. Also seems that each year I get into more elk.
Elk hunting really is an addiction isn't it. Look at our success rates haha. We are really gambling every year! Gotta love it!
The fever is beginning to set in. Very hard and very fast!
-
In 22 years Ive taken 15 bulls and 2 cows. 4 of those bulls were rifle, and the rest by archery. Can we count the misses on the ones that got away? :chuckle:
-
8 years all archery
6 elk
4 bulls
2 cows.
1 4x4
1 4x5
1 5x5
1 6x6 scored 239 p&y
I hope you mentioned 339.
nope, i ment 239 which isnt a monster but makes the book and is my best bull to date. for a true coastal rosey, he is a agood bull.
-
8 years hunting elk, 5 bulls and 1 cow
-
third year, no elk yet. equipment failure and lack of time have limited me in the past but not this year.
-
13 years for elk harvested 2 lost 1 :'( missed a hanful and chased a bunch all on the west side. A magnificent beast that never ceases to amaze me how smart fast and quiet these animals can be
-
hunted a couple of years in high school and shot 1 cow. took many years off and started hunting elk again in 2002, and missed many opportunities, and killed one spike in Idaho.
-
1 year, 0 elk
-
First year for my son and me in WA. 0 elk, but we both want one bad. Still discussing the right area to go.
-
4 years hunting elk (Hunting anything for that matter). 2 Elk each a 4 x 4. My first year Elk was pretty damn small, but tasted GREAT! Last years Elk was MUCH bigger (And I think Elk Gets tastier the more you shoot)!

-
16 years elk hunting and 7 elk, 2 6x6, 1 5x6, 1 5x5, 1 5x3, and two spikes!
-
Hell of a bull Wehunt!
-
Yeah! I can imagine my arrow clanging through those antlers :'(
I always forget on those big boys - aim at the spot not the antlers!!! Guess that's why I'm not Chuck Adams or Randy Ulmer :)
I'd trade four or five of mine for that one - Sweet!
-
5 years hunting. Finally SAW an elk last year, and no luck on closing the distance within 85 yards. On the bright side, I got my boots broken in pretty good!
-
10 years of weekend warrior, 9 years of staying all season, i have 2 cows to show for it, but countless close encounters of the west side type.
-
Hunted elk HARD for 10 years. O for 10. I'm the guy who dosn't get drunk, goes to bed early, gets out before daylight, and stays out all day. For some reason I always end up dragging other peoples elk to our camp. Even the FNG harvested in our camp several times. :dunno: Big bulls come to those who wait!
Oh yeah, I wouldn't trade any of those days spent out in the cold with elk out of range or behind the brush with no shot and not pulling the trigger for ANYTHING! Good luck to all this season, as I need a #$%load!
-
12 years, 5 bulls, opportunity was there the other seven years and just could not get the shot or missed the shot.
Fulla
-
16 elk 17years
-
I have taken my fair share.. Maybe even more.. :chuckle:
-
This is year 6 and so far the score is Elk 5 me 0. I have been close but we all know that doesn't count. I have missed 3 times. Twice shot over and one under. With the toutle tag this year I think My hard work all these years will finally be paying off.
-
Year 3 for me. 0 elk. 3 blown stalks. I have been lucky and have seen them every year but I just cant seem to close the deal. Im guessing that I will have them figured out by the time I am 60 :chuckle:
-
Im running about 50 percent.
-
3 years and 0 elk, Will keep trying until I kill one. Its just a matter of time. :)
-
Here you go Bowhunter45, this is the bull I got in Washington 2 years ago with a front loader.

-
30yrs elk hunting more off than on.....0 elks. :IBCOOL:
-
I feeling so much better now that ive read this post! Started hunting elk in 1989 @ the age of 12, and i can count the amount of elk ive shot on one hand, well, really one finger. Years of "hunting" with my dad, while he drank beer and drove around, left a lot for me to learing when i got older. Switched to a smokepole a 7years ago and learned alot.
-
Shank you and I could have had the same dad. LOL.
Keep in mind that everyone who has shot an elk or more than one elk is happy to tell you about it...
-
I have been hunting elk for around 15 years and killed one spike. Sure glad I got that little bull! That spike rack hangs with quite a few sets of deer antlers. When I look at all the great memories each set of antlers gives me, one of the most special to me is that little set of spike elk antlers.
