Title: FS 1501 Little Rattlesnake Road
Post by: Fish4Fun on July 18, 2011, 06:47:49 AM
Been hearing that the 1501 is washed out and closed up to 1503. Sounds like the Little Rattlesnake Creek blew it out during the storms. Anyone been over there to see it ??   Was going to call the Naches Forest Service today and see what they have to say. That will make a huge impact of getting into there for Elk season.

Yeah, Elk season might be a little tough getting around in some places due to the road problems. I am guessing FS 1501 is out from the Hanging Tree to the first bridge which is a mile or so. The creek has made problems there before but I am guessing it got the road this time and maybe the first bridge.

yeah its washed out about a mile up from the bottom.  You can still come around from the big Rattlesnake however.

Thanks, just got off the phone with the Forest Service. She said the same thing about going around, and wasn't sure how far from the turn off the road was closed.

you can come around from the top but you can only get to the intersection of 1501 and 1503, so there is like a five mile stretch you cannot get to

i was up there a few weeks ago , scouting of course, ( drew a bethel bull tag for the rifle season) road is closed at the bottom of the hill all the way up to the 1501 intersection. It is really blocked off at the bottom but just has a barricaed at the top. You can still get in by going around but it a much longer drive. They are not going to fix it this year as far as I have heard.

I think cidwatermaster meant that you can still get to places if you drive around from the Whitepass side of Bethel.  Or at least I hope that's what he meant.

It sucks for some people about these road closures since alot of people will not be able to access their traditional hunting grounds.  But......  on the upside the elk and deer are going to have ALOT more escapement and our bull to cow ratio is gonna go through the roof in the next few years.  Plus its gonna be alot easier for people to get away from the crowd if they are willing to walk.

 :yeah:

I may actually consider hunting over there again, if the roads are still not fixed by next year. I can't think of a better way to improve deer and elk numbers than to have all the roads closed. Only problem is, I am sure a lot of people will ignore the rules and will access those areas with ATV's and motorbikes.

all the more reason to be ethical and turn those quads in!!! nothing makes me more mad then to be walking on a closed road and have a damn quad drive by

Adam I LOVE turning in people who drive behind the barriers. I've had the pleasure of doing that twice.  My brother was lucky enough one time to come upon a guy that was about 4 miles  behind a gate who's 4 wheeler just wouldn't start.  They guy asked for some help and my brother told him he had two legs just like him and to start walking.   Some guys have all the luck.   :chuckle:

Not sure on roads closed down there but do know going behind the barricades. I know somebody that did on scouting trip couple weeks ago, and they consider it trespassing so its not just possibly a fine. They turn it over to local prosecutor for them to decide the punishment. :yike:

Nothing more frustrating to take off 3 hours before daylight behind a gate and have some dude get there on a motorized ride just as it cracks daylight. We used to deer hunt a place near Easton where we would walk in 3 hours in the dark up a mountain to be there at day break. Then have a guy and his boy ride by and knock down a 4 point buck just ahead of us in a clear cut. The thought of putting a rope across and taking then off their bikes was a good idea at the time. The fines need to be steeper for going behind gates and barricades.

They are going to fix it next year some time as far as I heard.  Oh Yeah Up there you will need a discover pass to snowmobile from rattlesnake snow park once they start grooming.

They already have it posted for the discover pass. :bash:

Discover Pass is not currently needed in GMU352 or GMU360 as per DNR.

Hi David

The Discover Pass signs in the GMU 352 where put up by DF&W. The DNR lands within GMU 352 do not require a discover pass due to the checker boarded ownership with DF&W. The same is true for GMU 360.

Good luck
