Title: "The Hot Call For Herd Bulls"
Post by: Prime Time on July 18, 2011, 05:31:24 PM
For all you members who subscribe to Outdoor Life, you may want to take a look at the latest (August) issue. There seems to be the new "secret weapon" call out there for herd bulls that hits pretty close to home I'd say. One of our own just might be involved with it.  :chuckle: We'll see if he reveals himself..

I’m extremely humbled at the opportunity to be included in this month’s “Archery Elk Bow Close” article in Outdoor Life.  I never thought that my Elk Calls would be featured in an Elk hunting article in one of the major hunting magazines.

I owe this site for much of my success.  The Hunting-Washington community has been a huge majority of my business.  Not to mention, when I talked with Andrew McKean (Editor of Outdoor Life) and asked how he heard about such a small call maker like myself, His answer was he had read an interview that Bow4Elk (Tom Ryle) put together and He also had talked with LittleJohn (John) about the 360”+ bull elk he killed using my calls.  Andrew also alluded to coming to the site and checking out some of the reviews and comments regarding my calls.

If you get a chance, pick up the magazine and let me know what you think.  I know this probably sounds stupid but I’m like a little kid whose dreams just came true (at least part of it).

Once again I thank you for your support.  This site is full of a great bunch of guys and gals.

I wish you all the best of luck in 2011.  May your arrows fly true and lead fly straight.

Different award. That got the over used piece of crap of the year with a suggestion of "learn to use a reed and know what you are saying" lol

This article has me curious... Is there an online article yet?

Hoochie Mama

 :yeah:

Yep I don't understand what the big deal is.  All you have to do is grab a Hoochie Mamma and start squeezing that thing as hard and as fast as you can.  If your really good you can do two at once. Preferably do this from inside the cab of your truck on the road.  The Acoustics of your standard truck cab amplify the realism of the sound of a cow elk in heat.  Herd bulls find this sound irresistable.  BAMM!!!!! Your welcome now i've revealed my secrets.  :chuckle:

I'm looking at 2 to 2.5 weeks from when the call is ordered right now.  I'm working as hard as i can to turn out the calls and keep the quality I demand.

Right now I will be able to still deliver before any of our elk seasons.

Ordered mine today to add to my extensive collection of open reed elk calls, Love the sound that wood calls put out. Have a Bugling bulls who's yur daddy wood call that sounds way better than the plastic version. Looking forward to trying this one.  Season is coming up quick and I can't wait!!

Thanks for the compliments and orders.

I'm trying to get these calls finished as fast as I can (but the quality and sound are most important).  The response to the article has been overwhelming.  I can't figure out if I am sinking or swimming yet.

I also want to note that even with the new national customer base due to the Outdoor Life article the Hunting-washington members continue to be a huge part of my success.

Thank You everyone.

I agree the Hoochie will call a bull the same as my calls will.  As a matter of fact I have called a few bulls in using a hoochie mama.

The only difference is you can't change the tone, sound like multiple elk and add the emotion sometimes necessary.  Not to mention around half the price.

I love the call I got from you Jason. Hopefully it'll bring in a big bull this season. You're going to have to get Sondi in on making these so you can keep up with your orders! It's great to see a "regular guy" who loves the outdoor's and hunting get some recognition. It's a pleasure knowing you. Hopefully we can get out in the woods together this year!

Looking forward to mine showing up, will put it to good use in a few weeks.

As far as a Hoochie Mama goes, I don't and won't use one. Watched a bull turn and start pushing his cows out of the area last year when my partner started using one in the thought he was helping me as I worked in on a 5x5. That bull wanted nothing to do with that call. That and I prefer reeds or open reed calls for the variety of sounds tht can be made.

Derrick, I didn't know you were on here.  I hope you get a big bull this season as well.  First of all you need to get that achilles healed up.  I know after talking with you about elk hunting that you are in a great spot to kill a big bull.
