D-Rock, thought you were going to go big or go home and use that bow of yours? If no luck just wait for that last week then take the rifle. I'll bring my own rifle just in case you can't get close enough.

Popped off three rounds last week with "the mule", my .300 wsm. Seemed good to go. Went out yesterday to check my Sept bear spot...huckleberries are up, as well as salmon berries.
No bears, but thats why its my Sept spot.
My Aug spots will see me next week!
Good luck all, be safe, shoot straight and lets save some fawns!
And remember, if you have to track, give it your all!
-
Tested the rifle a couple weeks ago. Got all my gear sorted and ready to go. Now just trying to get some stuff done around the house because once Aug 14th gets here I will be hunting as much as possible probably until March. :chuckle:

I'll be out using my 870 with rifled slugs. It's so thick in there that I won't be able to shoot farther than 20 yards.
-
What slugs are you shooting? I've been running some Winchester Dual Bonds and Hornaday SST's (I think they are) thru my H&R slug gun with good results.
-
Took the 300 WSM out yesterday. I think I'm ready. The center was a 4 shot group at 300 yards.
-
I'm shooting the Winchester Super-X 1 oz Power Points. Nothing special. I have my smooth bore 23" Turkey barrel with a mod choke. Seems to be pretty darn accurate out to 50 yds (the farthest I've shot it).

Going for the 4 hour hike tomorrow after work to check my trail-cam. Hopefully it is full of bear pics. If so, i'm taking Monday off and going back up there. :hunter:

Those are sabot slugs, you get just as good or better accuracy with rifled slugs, sabots slugs are made for rifled barrels, rifled slugs are made for smoothbore. I would never use an SST on a elk let alone a bear. Its made for accuracy, not for penetration or knockdown power.
