would it be baiting if I tied one of our living goats to a tree somewhere and waited to see if a cougar (or any other predator) would show up? just letting my goat clear some brush while I sit in a stand with my bow lol
-
I have never seen anything where it says that live bait is illegal. The only bait that I know of that is illegal is edible parts of wild game.
-
hmm? good question, I would think baiting is baiting though , dead or alive
-
baiting for cougars is legal anyways :dunno:
-
and yotes
-
Baiting is legal for everything except bears and game birds.
-
I used my ex-girlfriends mother's dog as coyote bait once. It was a mini dachshund. He whined and barked non stop so we brought him out to the pasture with us and let him do his thing. At first he was gunshy then he started loving it.
Honest to God he'd pee on every dead yote.

Decoy dogs are a great tactic for hunting coyotes. Unfortunately it is now illegal in this state.

Thats cause the people that don't get it are the ones making the rules
-
If you have pics of the little dog peeing on a dead yote I've got a six pack for you.
-
Now I just have to get permission to use the goat lol
-
Chickens work well as a live decoy as well......or so I have been told! (just in case it is not legal)
-
Well I got the online version of the regs and did a search thru the whole document and the only times the word bait shows up is when it is talking about bear and game birds. so cougar is legal. Don't think I'm gonna get the goat but I started looking into chickens, What do you all think about using a duck? their about the same price and I'm just gonna end up eating it my self after the seaso, hopefully with a side of cougar.
-
I have a whole bunch of rabbits if you want to try one of those. :chuckle: :chuckle: They sell rabbit harnesses at the pet store.

How much for the rabbits?
-
How many you want? If you just want one Ill give it to you. If you want more I usually charge $10.
-
Kain I just googled Vantucky.... Wow lol. back to the rabbit thing I kind of want something that will make a lot of noise to help attract the predators, and don't want to have to break a rabbits leg to get the noise lol
-
No dont want to be hurting rabbits when there are so many e-callers out there that will make the noise for you. :chuckle:
-
Forest Gump would say to this idea:
Stupid is, as stupid does.
A few years back, PETA showed a cat caught in a claw trap. That year the WA voters took away the right to trap fur bearing critters, (even moles in your yard), as well as the right to bait blackbear.
What other rights do you want to loose?
:bdid:

It is legal to bait cougar, coyote, bobcat. You cannot bait bear, waterfowl, or game birds.
I think you should check into animal cruelty laws if you plan on using live bait. Also consider a shaded area, water, food, and that the animal is able to move about, etc.

Oh God! Whether it's legal or not, whatever you do, don't let the tree huggers catch you doing it. We would never hear the end of it.
-
The bait animal would be completley protected and two of us in tree stands with plenty of fire power. I think I'm going to go with a chicken because I have heard they will make more noise and I plan on having fried chicken that night lol

the goat won't be bait,... it will be out in the wilderness enjoying nature,.. eating natural food,.. maybe even see its cousin (deer) :chuckle:

bring a guinnie hen or two, those damn things are the absolute noisest birds and all you got to do is hook a string to the bushes by the pen that you will have them in and just pull the string and they will cut loose, dont worry about trying to hear anything comin in ..cause you wont hear a damn thing
-
Yea I'm excited to see what kind of animals will show up, I have an archery tag and in an either sex unit so anything that shows up is fair game! I'll look into the guinnie hens, thanks!

Oh after I'm done using the chicken to lure in a cougar I'm gonna butcher the chicken, and I'll try to get some video but pictures for sure.

remember the tree huggers visit this site. :twocents: this kind of unsensored talk gets us in-trouble. :bdid:

-
well heres to the tree huggers :puke:.. now why dont you take your tree hugn self and go hug a wolf or a cougar and see how that turns out for ya..... and leave animal management to the people that actually care, like hunters and fisherman, ya know the guys and gals that put a ton of time and money into the animals and other wildlife... :twocents:
-
:tree1: :pee:
-
You should try two roosters. That would make the tree huggers happy and the preditors mouth water. Put them in separate cages next to each other. Its like cock fighting, but hippie friendly and guaranteed to bring in something.

I like it Dave B!!!

Using a live goat?! Any one else get reminded of Jurassic Park? lol :chuckle:
