the last couple days, i noticed my dog is getting bit by bugs alot. they are little tiny fly lookinh bug,... well it annoys the hell out of him,..
is there some kind of dog shampoo or spray or something i can put on him to deter the bugs? also, wouldn't mind something that helped keep ticks away. :dunno:

I like adams flea off mist also zodiac makes a decent flea and tick spray as well
you can find it at petsmart, petco (where the pets go), or feed stores

Get some Frontline and put it on him.

Revolution is even better because it has the heartworm preventative and we are starting to get heartworm out west now.

Just like any meds...make sure to watch him/her after the application.
My dog and Frontline didnt get along to well....caused him to lose a baseball size patch of fur where applicated.

frontline doesnt always repel flies mosquitoes etc they die after they bite the dog but the dog still gets bit...the sprays arent long lasting and have to be reapplied after swimming or a couple days but they do repel similar to off or sprays made for us to use.
careful using revolution without a heartworm check. if your dog has existing heartworms it can cause problems...just my experience...we also only recently started having heartworm issues it used to be strictly a problem in the southern states and east coast...

thanks alot. i like the frontline stuff

Order some of this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23210 (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23210)
It's a lot cheaper than Frontline or any of the other flea and tick control products.

yeah i see. my dog doesn't have a flea problem, and rarely gets ticks,.. but the tiny flies/mosquitoes are the main problem

Advantix (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23033) will repel mosquitos.
-
For the flies you should just get some sort of repellent in a spray bottle, like runamuk said.

This article may help: http://www.dogsincanada.com/bugs-off (http://www.dogsincanada.com/bugs-off)
(Advantix would be easier though)
Flys Off (http://www.petco.com/product/2033/Farnam-Flys-Off-Insect-Repellent-for-Dogs.aspx) is a spray that is supposed to repel flies and mosquitos. Never used it on my dog......but I see Dr. Fosters and Smith recommended it on their website.

Agreed on all counts. The vet I go to is screening for heartworm now. Being an east-coaster I jumped all over it when they offered it. One of the drop type treatments will do the mosquitoes too, I think it's Frontline but not sure now, I can't remember.

If you have any intention of running him in the woods on the eastside, you should get the tick stuff. He'll be infested if he's out in the woods and the ticks are out.
:twocents:
been there, done that.

Frontline for flea and ticks, nothing compares.

+1 on the Frontline, it's the best. I live on the wet side, ticks are rare here. We get a few ticks now and again, found one this year on my brittany. Couple of years ago I took my dog over to Umtanum area for the day. It was late spring. Got home and found him infested BAD with ticks. Not much bothers me but ticks creep me out for some reason. Made a believer out of me that east side has ticks! I manually de-ticked my dogs. My vet recommended Frontline and I've been a big fan since...Works well on fleas and ticks, doesn't seem to bother the dogs in the least.
