Title: Just to say Hi.
Post by: scudmaster on June 16, 2008, 08:39:22 PM
Hi all,

Just getting back into Elk hunting this year. The my lab had been demanding most of my hunting time the last few years and the kids have grown up enough to allow me to get out again.

I took my only elk, a spike, in Cowiche back in 2000 with a Remington 700ML .50cal.  I have decided to stay west side this year with the cost of gas. :'( and it will make scouting easier.

I look forward to sharing some stories with all of you.

Good job getting back into it, some times its hard to return once life gets busy. I did the same thing and was out about six years. I switched to archery because while I was gone they switched ML seasons, areas, length of season,  and also what animals you could take. Archery season seemed to fit better. Have fun and good luck this season.

Thanks for the welcome all,

Jackalope, unforunately I don't fly fish, but, I do some spincasting and occasionally throw a fly with my sinning reel on a back country lake.  But mostly, I have been concentrating on bird hunting and training my lab.

MikeXray, I stopped ML for the same reason.  But is seems to be back to a reasonable season and areas and I already have the equipment.

Last year I was fortunate enough to join a friend on his sheep hunt on Clemens Mountain and I then went on a backcountry bear hunt into Goat Rocks.  An incredible few days of wildlife viewing.  Over 200 elk, 15 deer, 35 goats, 3 coyotes and 3 marmot.  (Of course no bears :dunno:)  Anyway, I got the bug again and decided to get back into big game this year.

I also started coyote hunting and I got to bag my first Turkey this spring as well.  So hunting is becoming a year round endevor for me. Much to my wife's shagrin :P

I live in North Bend, so i am hoping to put in some time and try to develop some local knowledge to share.

Cheers,

Scudmaster
