this is next to a size 12 danner pronghorn. it was about 2 1/4" in diameter.
i found 3 piles like this within a few hundred yards of road. each pile looked to be a week or so apart in time they were left. i didnt see any other sign at all.

with the amount of berries in the crap it's hard to say, could be a decent size bear or just one with the runs

heres on with the runs :chuckle:
-
My black lab craps a bigger pile than that 1st one and she's weighs 120 pounds.
-
No way to indicate a bears size by the size of his crap :chuckle:
-
The 1 st pile could be a nice bear 150 to 200 lbs and the second one maybe a younger bear or like they said above ...a bear with the runs :chuckle: but what I do know is I would definately be finding where he is getting the berries and hunting that area ...were they blackberries...a bit early for blueberries :twocents:
-
best way to tell is dig throgh and smell it. if you find a zipper or pieces of hiking boots and it smells like pepper spray then it definetly is a big bear.

........or a smart bear! :chuckle:
-
I always judge bear by their crap and that looks like a decent bear to me, just keep concentrating on the area where his crap is freshest and there's a good chance you will smack him, good luck.
-
That bear is 139 pound male and walks with a limp on his left hind leg from where a Shuttle T grazed the inside of his lower leg. Oh it was an Easton shaft, can't tell what model though.....at least that's what that pile tells me from all my years of sign reading......I could be off a couple of pounds though. ;)
-
Wow, you are good!
-
I find it interesting most pictures posted it appears bear shi_t in the road not in the woods :dunno:
and nice pics of poo welcome to club poo.......

:yike:
impressive all that from a pile of crap :chuckle:
-
That a big pile of $hit but I'm pretty sure it was a goldtip shaft .
-
I've seen bigger.
Thats what she said.
Looks big enough to me.
Again, thats what she said.
-
You just have small feet. :chuckle:
-
The only way to know a bear size for sure is to sample the taste of the poo. If it tastes alot like berries, then the intestinal track is short (and therefore a smaller bear has it). If it tastes like poo more than berries, the intestinal track is long (and therefore a larger bear crapped it).
Let me know. Ps....it hasnt pooped out any pistol or cell phone, so I would pass on it.
-
That is some sound logic right there I tell you.
-
ok so let me get this straight on judging bear from their crap :chuckle:
step 1. look for firearms and clothing parts
step 2. taste it
step 3. smell
i added a step
step 4......make sure to get a picture of step 2? haha
anything else

Check for texture. As Saylean said, rub it between your fingers. The finer grain results in a longer digestive tract.
-
Caution! Bear crap can be deceiving, it's like going all in with a chick that you have only seen a picture of her from the neck up. You may be surprised at the bigger picture, most often than not, traumatized, disappointed to say the least. :o

This thread is great....shoot the bear and let us all know :IBCOOL:

since there seems to be so much interest in this thread maybe the moderaters should consider a permanent addition to the forum topics. we already have "shed hunting" (which i mistakenly thought was looking for a good place to store my tools and lawnmower) maybe they should add "*censored* hunting" a forum to post photos and stories of you outdoor experience with fecal matter.
