Title: bear down (for real)
Post by: D-Rock425 on August 02, 2011, 06:18:44 PM
Just shot one ten minutes ago.  Not a big bear but has a cool white patch on his chest.  I really had to reach out and poke him to 14 yards.

Here is what I know.

Talked with D-Rock on the phone. He spotted the little bugger just off the path he was working up and spooked it up a tree. Doesn't sound like a very big bear but sounds like a pretty one. He mentioned that it will go a bit over 100 pounds and has a real nice white patch on its chest. Well, it ran off a bit and up a tree. He popped it once and it simply climed a bit more. 2nd shot took care of it and down it came. He has done the knife work so far and is walking back to get his cart to haul it out. He said he can't post pics from his phone. BUT........he is going to email me so I can post if up.

One less fawn killer in the woods!

Since you have to turn that collar in to the state, take photo and have it decopaged on a plaque that you can with the bear rug on the wall.

Nice job.

nice to see a bear down.  congradulations.  never seen a bear collared before.  i have seen several elk and a goat with a collar.  i hope to get out thursday and saturday sunday mornings.   would be interesting if the wildlife folks would give you any history on this bear.

Game department is going to call me back with info on the ear tag and collar.  She told me they don't like the animals to be consumed with in 60 days of being tag.  Well that's great because I already dropped him off at the butcher this morning. Lets hope its been more than 60 or I killed the little bugger for nothing  :bash:

Congrats on the bear.
As for the DFW, you would think they wouldn't tag anything within 60 days of the opening of the season.  Good luck.

Just don't shoot ones with collars and no worries.  They have relocated a record number of bears.  All the food is down low do to late summer and heavy snow fall.  Most berries were buried over the 4,000 ft mark, with some exceptions on south facing slopes.

I was up in the same area, didn't know until this morning that the person who I crossed paths with that had all the luck last night would actually be on this forum.

My night was initially full of disappointment.  I walked up to find someone had stolen one of my cams... :-(  If you're on here, its a Primos Truth Cam 35 and I'd love it back... just put it back on the same tree please!

I didn't know until I got home, but the bear D-Rock got and D-Rock himself were on my other cam that wasn't stolen yet (thanks D-Rock for leaving it alone), so I thought I'd post a couple of the pics per request.

That close up really gives you an idea of how ugly D-Rock is when you get up close.

Thats pretty cool that you have him on cam as well as the bear. I've had a chance to hang out, hike, and do some shooting with this D-Rock fella. Stand up guy and the last person that would nab your cam. Cool pics.

What's up with the purple?
