just thought i would see whats the most popular
-
haha pretty funny even though im a mathews guy
-
Bowtech, cause I can spell it!
-
I shoot a hoyt (only cause it was my brothers old bow and he gave it to me...been good so far).
All the other boys in my fam shoot Mathews.
-
Funny PSE didn't make the list...
Who do you think sells the most bows annually?
-
mathews "Our shafts penetrate deeper"
-
Bowtech is named that because you need to bring a bow tech with you whenever you go shooting...
Mathews... slowcam...
Hoyt... also marketed as a boat anchor :tung:
bear... cheap copies...
... see if I can rile anybody up. :chuckle:
They all make a good bow. I shoot pse because I like them best. And they seem to fit me real well.
-
Funny PSE didn't make the list...
Who do you think sells the most bows annually?
that is a good question... should I know the answer?
-
Whatever feels the best in your hand! I shoot a Mathews reezin, I also had a Vectrix XL.
-
Matthews Switchback!!! i wish they still made them :'(
-
had a PSE and liked it, i have been shooting my alpha max for about a month now and love it, but again i think any newer bow is solid and if it works for you thats what really counts, in reality they can all get the job done.
two sticks and a string got it done years ago lol with the technology we have now most bows shoot better than most people can shoot anyways, and thats not bashing on anyone, i know thats the truth with me!!!!
-
PSE ALL THE WAY
-
I've owned Mathews, Bowtech, Browning, & currently a PSE. I liked all of them for each one's particular attributes and each shot well. I've never shot a Hoyt, but the few I've picked up were very heavy. I'm sure they shoot very well. In this day and age if a bow manufacturer doesn't make an accurate bow they won't survive.
I basically boil it down to this: accuracy, weight, size, speed.
Shoot what ever you shoot the most accurately and comfortably. What good is 450 fps if you can't hit a paper plate?
Nice poll, I got a chuckle!
-
i was gonna put pse on there but it doesnt give you enough options and i thought bowtech and bear may be more popular then pse
-
Look at the Hoyt guy trying to make himself feel better...throw that thing away or just give it to someone you don't like much.
Then go buy a Mathews. :chuckle:
Actually, I think Hoyt, Mathews Bowtech, PSE and some others are all good bows. But it's more fun to flip s#$t.
-
All bows are created equally, then a few become HOYTS!
-
Martin Archery
But have shot PSE, Bowtec, Alpine, Golden Eagle, Browning. I am on my third Martin simply because of the customer service I received about 20 years ago. In or around the late 80's, I had an accident involving a Honda 90 and a black bear that resulted in a broken thumb and a broken laminated riser on a Martin Warthog. I took the bow to Martin Archery in Walla Walla and while I waited they installed a new riser, cables and string at no charge. Back hunting the next day.
-
All bows are created equally, then a few become HOYTS!
What, when they're old and ready to retire?

ide tend to believe a hoyt would shoot "strait-er" then a mathews "brokeback". or was it switchback i cant remember.....

if you meant me, i wasn't trying to make myself feel better, i'm sure i'd shoot well with a mathews, i just don't know why i'd want to spend more money on a bow that doesn't shoot as nice as mine? :yike:
i can shoot great with my grandpas hoyt from 1992, which is fun to shoot to pass time, but i'd rather shoot my newer hoyt on a regular basis.
Not to tangent, but something that makes you realise how far the new bows have come, is if you have a chance get an early nineties bow and pretty much any newer bow and shoot them alternating between sets of shots and notice the differences, it really is crazy how far technology has come.
however i'm sure an early nineties Hoyt would shoot better than a new mathews lol just saying :chuckle:
-
the thing I always heard with mathews(guy at the bowshop even told me the same thing when i bought mine) when you buy a mathews your paying for the name, but hmm now adays they are all the same price :dunno:
-
Look at Stormin85's setup. He has a "homemade release". That's because any factory made release just opens it's jaws and spits out the Hoyt. Refuses to work. Can't say as I blame it. Now he has to cobble together some kind of Frankenrelease...
-
true true, i have a homemade release, its actually pretty slick, first thing i fab'd up for bowhunting myself, using about four different releases.
i like the name, frankenrelease, maybe i can use it for my company? i will make a nice custom release for you, you can even be on my pro staff?!?
we only shoot hoyt's though? i hope that isn't a problem? you know, you shooting a better bow? lol :chuckle:
-
When I returned to Bow hunting after 25+ years I got my first Elk with a Parker Magnum my brother handed down to me. (1/2 inch short on the draw)
Tried out the Mathews and liked the one with the shorter brace height... but the look and feel of the Element was hard to beat! Still debating whether or not I need a stabilizer on it.
I only have one issue with Hoyts and that's the short valley at the end of the draw....
-
I shoot a Hoyt because I'm a serious hunter.
(and because somebody on here last year was looking to trade his Hoyt for a hunting rifle and I had a hunting rifle to unload. He accepted my trade offer so I am hunting with a Hoyt)
-
Man, what did you trade him for that? A pink Cricket single shot .22? You got ripped off.
-
My maxxis 35 is hardly a boat anchor... For all you pse guys dosent that stand for piecea. Shi+. Equipment?
-
Man, what did you trade him for that? A pink Cricket single shot .22? You got ripped off.
Yes, pink cricket for a new Alphamax 32.
:dunno:
The cool thing is that I take it in my driftboat and I don't need an anchor and a bow. The bow has 2 jobs.
-
after trying mathews and bowtech I went with the bowtech. the guy at the shop selling bowtechs was super helpful, friendly and put up with all of my stupid newbie questions. he also talked me out of a lot of really expensive accessories that I really couldn't afford/appreciates since I was new to compound bows.
now the guy at the mathews shop spoke with a lisp, wore a pink shirt knotted above his navel, and said that you had to shoot a mathews bow with a limp wrist or it just would not tune properly. I really didn't care for the way he gave me shooting instructions either....
-
^^^^ haha awesome.
-
See? Mathews bows are so good even people you wouldn't normally associate with shooting a bow can do it. You mistook "limp wrist" with relax your grip on the bow handle. Of course, there is so much hand shock with that bowtech you bought it'll just jump out of your hand if you don't hang on tight.
-
I've been shooting a hoyt for the past 6 months and I really like it. There's no way I'm going to spend the money and get a Matthew's. :twocents:
-
Well, you get what you pay for.
-
Of course, there is so much hand shock with that bowtech you bought it'll just jump out of your hand if you don't hang on tight.
now that I have a sling attached to my bowtech I really like all that hand shock, I don't have to walk as far to retrieve arrows.
-
I shoot a bear and i like it does the job for me, great starter bows i think

i think it was pull shoot explode... but i like to live a little on teh dangerous side...
-
i promise i wont hoyt ya. sorry had a bad experience with custumer service 2 weeks before an antelope hunt. sorry just love my bowtechs
-
I'm shooting a Martin Firecat and have had no complaints. A little noisier than some and a bit of a hard rollover but it's killed a lot of animals and has never let me down. That's my :twocents:
-
Yeah a hoyt would be a good starter bow. Does not belong in the same category as a bowtech or mathews. Shoot a hoyt if you want to be ......

The airlines lost my bow on a trip to West Virginia for an NFAA hunt way back when. A guy in camp said he had a Root I could shoot. I said, "I don't give a crap what it's made of as long as it shoots!" After only a half dozen practice shots I killed my best whitetail ever on the run at 35 yards with it. Sometimes name just doesn't matter.
I've never been a fan of single cam bows, but this new Bear Assault just seems to hit everything I aim at. I punch the trigger, creep, shoot in a rush to kill the mosquito on my nose and still the arrows are in the spot. I'm starting to feel as though it is possessed by some target hungry freak. I think I'll keep it for a while.
Put a Loesch grip on an Invasion CPX and am liking it pretty good too. One heck of a backup to the Bear.
Sometimes I think these Hoyt guys feel so guilty for spending all that money on a heavy dog they have to talk it up to make themselves feel better :whoo:
Oops, I thought we were joking around. Now some Cameron Hanes wannabe is going to kick my a**! :P
-
I just bought an Alpine F1 Fireball and love it!!!
-
Funny PSE didn't make the list...
Who do you think sells the most bows annually?
They sell the most cause they don't last more than one season :chuckle:

How come hoyt has the only carbon bow which is stronger and quieter and lighter than any other bow on the market. I would like to see all you other guys run your bows over with a full size pickup and then go elk hunting same day. But unless your shooting a hoyt u probably wouldn't hit anything anyway... :tung: :chuckle:
-
I like the way Hoyt claims to be the first with a carbon riser when High country had one in 08 called the 4 runner. I do not feel the need to run over my Bowtech with my truck but it has fallen out of the tree a couple of times, did a cart wheel down a hill the day before I killed an elk with it. As far as accuracy you have to trust me when I say I do just fine. :archery_smiley: :chuckle:
We archers have to be the most fikle bunch when it comes to their gear, have you ever seen this kind of thred with the modern or the front stuffers? :chuckle:
-
If I had a Hoyt I'd purposely run it over with my truck and stuff it in a garbage can. Then I'd go buy a Mathews.
-

I SHOOT A MATHEWS AND THS IS THE FUNNIEST DAMN THING I HAVE EVER HEARD SOMEONE SAY ON THIS WEBSITE HAHAHA :chuckle: :chuckle: :IBCOOL: :P

We sell purple peeps and pink tubing. I'll have to remember to push those next time I go into a Mathews shop ;)

I shoot a Hoyt AM32 and that's the funniest thing Ive seen on here in awhile. :chuckle:

So far they are the first ones to make one that doesn't blow up. Diamond had one in the early eighties that blew up really good. Then PSE and High Country. All were pretty good at throwing shrapnel. So far the ones by Hoyt and Carbon Tech do seem to be of a different breed with the newer nano/epoxies of today.
I have seen more than one aluminum risered bow run over and still shoot well afterwards. A buddy of mine left his old Hoyt on top of the truck just before I did an Earnhardt pull out maneuver in front of a log truck. Don't even think the new Carbon Hoyt could have won that battle. Took about 10 ziplock bags to get that one home.
It's a good commercial that Hoyt has put together though. Reminds me of the old Muzzy cinterblock commercial that sold so many broadheads. Forget that I have never seen a deer hide behind a brick wall or walk around with a concrete vest on. Or the fact that the blades actually do the work not the tip. It sold a lot of heads for them and I'm sure Hoyt is doing quite well with the new carbon riser because of that commercial. Could do without all the frat party yelling in the back ground though.
Perhaps I should buy three Bear Assaults. Run over two of them with a big ass truck in the morning and still shoot an elk that evening with the third. I'd have done the same thing and still be money ahead! Plus, I would shoot arrows faster, would not have to worry about my cams going out of tune and I would not have to screw my accessories back on the bow after the stunt. Yeah! That would be AWESOME!!!
You Hoyt guys can have the video. I'll take my bargain bow, elk tenderloins and a whole wad of extra cash in my pocket. :P
This thread is fun! Who says archers can't get along?
-
a bow is kinda like a hooker you can get a beautiful hoyt and know its a high class, clean with no issues piece of equipment that will do what you ask when you tell it to. or you can pay some lady named bear who's loud, wont lay still, and and you'll have to talk to customer service after flinging your arrow cause your bound to have something wrong with your riser afterwards.
-
I think you'll only need 2 bear assults. One to take a dump on and one to cover it up with. Then you can buy a hoyt. They pretty much shoot themselfs! :chuckle:

It sounds like you know all this from experience? I never had problems getting ladies with having to pay so I can't relate to ya sorry. :chuckle: Leave it to a Hoyt guy to compare his bow to some street trash hookers :chuckle: :chuckle:

Your Hoyt sounds scary to shoot. Not sure I want a bow that shoots itself. I think propelling my arrows forward toward animal flesh is a better way to go.
As far as taking a dump on my Bear Assualt......"Crazy Larry" is a liar! It only happened that one time and honestly I was so drunk I don't remember doing it.
-
Hoyt shooters must road hunt alot! All this talk about how they run over their bows with their trucks and brag about it. I would keep that one to myself! You hoyt guys can keep your hookers...just careful where you set her down at :chuckle:

If some lady tells me her name is "Bear" I ain't buyin' it. That's a "Dude" plain and simple. Only a drunk Hoyt guy could miss that obvious a clue.
-
In all honesty I was a true blue Hoyt guru from '89 thru '06. Have killed the vast majority of my animals with Hoyt bows. At either the '06 or '07 ATA show all the guys at Hoyts booth seem to go from good industry friends to pompus, arrogant, dick weeds that couldn't give me the time of day or even shake my hand. It was such a disappointing change in attitude that I came home and sold every single Hoyt I had. The squaw still shoots a Hoyt, but I just took a new Bear out of the box for her. Still uncertain if she will make the switch, but that Toutle bull tag has her thinking about stepping up in speed/energy.
The folks at Bowtech take real good care of us personally and support our business with extreme generosity. Their new Invasion CPX really has to be shot to be fully appreciated. If you haven't shot a Bowtech in a couple of years you really haven't shot a Bowtech. The 2011 line is on a whole other plane of performance.
The amazing folks I deal with at Bear Archery/Trophy Ridge are new enough to archery they do not fully know who I am or what I have done. And yet they go so far out of their way to make sure the squaw and I are happy it is boarderline embarrassing. I stop in at the booth and the president comes out, puts a hand on my shoulder and says, "It sure is good seeing you again this year." Meanwhile guys are going off to get us new shirts, hats, arrow rests and what ever goodies they think should fit our needs in the northwest hunting woods. And I'm neither a current field tester nor pro staffer. Just your run of the mill manufacturer with a longer resume and trophy list than average. They truly give the royal treatment and their bows WAY out perform their value price.
I spent over a half years salary on my sheep/caribou trip to NWT a few weeks ago. And I never once thought of taking anything other than the Bear Assault. It's my best shooter and performed flawlessly.
The Mathews/McPherson company has always treated the squaw and I fairly and with respect. Nothing against them at all. I just do not enjoy shooting their bows :dunno:.

I'm nothing more than an Old Fart who owns the largest peep sight manufacturing business as of now. A lot of things in archery that I am a "Former something" besides being Duke Savora's protege'. All half a lifetime ago and old news. I'll leave it at that unless you need a resume'.
As far as the Squaw? She looks like a squaw, walks like a squaw, works for free and is 50% Creek. So she can't get mad for me calling her a squaw - can she? She's also an elk, and bear killing machine bow or gun.
-
I was just wondering who you were, thats all. I wasn't sure if I should know or not. I am not a long time archer, nor am I familiar with the business. I'm not even sure why all the Hoyt guys get picked on. MY Hoyt shoots pretty ok and I haven't compared it to enough other bows to know if it's even heavy or not.
I need a new peep...got a link?
Now I have to go google and figure out who Duke Savora is.

I don't know what you call winning. :) It seems that if a guy chimes in on here asking whats the best bow? Then everyone tells that guy to go shoot 15 different kinds of bows and see what one he likes best. Whichever one he likes best is the one he should buy. So what if I don't like a Matthews? Is it 1 T or 2? They look like waffles.
Is it like a Chevy/Ford/Dodge thing?
yup just shows that the majority of people smart :IBCOOL:
Bloodhound, aren't you on my team in the Hoyt camp?
-
Maybe for some guys. I actually like a lot of bows, including Hoyt, Bowtech and PSEs. But it's more fun to flip the Hoyt guys crap and some of the responses are super funny. I've been laughing all the way through this thread.
-
Hoyt, because i got it on the warranty from my Reflex delaminating. After the way they took care of me, I'll be a Hoyt shooter for a long, long time. I also will continue to have my bow serviced with Archery World , Vancouver, WA. They're the ones who sent my Reflex in on a rush and got me my new bow. Great shop!

Now I have to go google and figure out who Duke Savora is.
I wouldn't expect anyone who didn't read Western Bowhunter in the Eighties or early Nineties to know. Or that hunted bear heavily in Oregon throughout the 80s. It was all a long time ago and archery (especially bowhunting) is very much a "What have you done lately" thing. A lot of people have done a lot more impressive things than me lately. Many on this forum.
As far as "Duke" Savora? Duke was from the Seattle area and was the first to successfully use a razorblade in broadhead design. Easton said at one time that without the Savora one piece ferrule the aluminum arrow might never achieved popularity. Duke also was the inventor of the anodized camo aluminum arrow. This too led to the amazing rise in popularity of the Easton shafts.
When it came to hunting Duke was a leader in that field as well. When Alberta decided that archers could not effectively take animal such as sheep and made it illegal the NRA and Duke came to the rescue. His ram was not only the first ever killed by a non-native archer, but the speed in which it expired shocked all those that viewed the film and bowhunting was reinstated.
After finding out that Fred Bear and others had used the POD in Africa while bowhunting the government of Rhodesia listed bowhunting as "Poaching" which is a punishment of death. The "Chapinda Pools" testing was conducted with the Rhodesian government, government Ranger D. Van Eyssen and Duke Savora. Regardless of what the self promoting dentist says of late this was the first test of its kind in Africa. Blood trails were measured for length, animals were autopsied, and time on the hoof was taken. At the conclusion the government concluded, "Bow hunting will rekindle the true spirit of HUNTING in Africa which seems to have taken second place to 'Make the Book', 'Rowland Ward". etc. etc., bigger scopes and more powerful guns." Bowhunting was re-instituted as a legal means of hunting with no restrictions on species to be hunted.
Guess that is enough off topic conversation. Time to get more of those Cameron Hanes wannabes wanting to kick my .....! I'm really surprised they can actually take a joke. The ones around here would have my butt for sure!
-
That's interesting as hell, RadSav. Maybe you should make a separate thread about that. Really cool stuff.
Ok, back on topic: Hoyts suck.

Thanks Radsav...cool stuff. I didn't even live out west in the 80's or 90's.

With a right cross..... LOL Just kidding, all the companies these days make good bows. Even Mathews has decided the "Solo" cam would not work for the most part and came out with fast bows.... All the btop companies seem set to "Follow" each other, and Mathews is trying to "catch up".... Did I slam their logo's enough? For those of you looking to break away from the pack.... check out some of the upcoming innovative companies out there (Maitland)... or you can wait a few years and the big companies will copy them.... but by then Rob Maitland will have done more engineering to stay ahead of the others... Really just kidding so all you fanboys relax... I have a hoyt.... My kids shoot the Bowtech line.... just that MAthews is like Jane Fonda in my house.... "NOT ALLOWED"! :chuckle:
-
You have to have a little compassion for those Mathews guys. They are so smooth and slow they don't seem to get the jokes and they definitely can't get out of the way when the crap starts flying. Most just get their feeling hurt :ACRY:
-
I cant hit anything, but im sticking with my Parker. No way would i shoot anything else
-
Radsav,
Cool info for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Very surprised you choose your Bear over the Invasion though. Not that Ive shot a Bear. I definitely want an Invasion but my Guardian is treating me wonderful.
Tell us more about your Peep please!

I cant hit anything, but im sticking with my Parker. No way would i shoot anything else
Sounds like my father when I told him I was going to start bowhunting. I remember him saying, "Why do you want to spend so much money on that bow when you're never going to kill anything with it?" He thought it was advise. I took it as motivation. Should have seen the look on his face when he saw my arrow go whizzing through my first elks chest. That was a Bear back then too!

All i know is that it is easier chasing down and looking for arrows then looking for gun powder and lead after a shot

i just want to re up the fact that when i posted this it is just supposed to be fun. i think i speak for all when i say everyone has there own personal preference on bows but this is just a fun way of giving each other crap when in the end it doesn't matter what brand you shoot as long as you like it and it gets the job done! even though we all know that Hoyt is the best!

 That's right bloodhound. I agree with everything except that you mispelled Mathews in that last sentence. I don't even know how you got spelling. If you're using a phone and it auto-filled you should just throw that thing away. Something is definitely wrong with it.
Hopefully, nobody is taking this too seriously.

Bloodhound they call you that cause you tracked an animal for two days in the Rain!? Were you shooting a HOYT! :chuckle: :chuckle:

That's what happens when your bow doesn't shoot hard enough. Just bounced one off the ribs, I guess. I'm surprised he could even hit it with that erratic POS.

Radsav,
Cool info for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Very surprised you choose your Bear over the Invasion though. Not that Ive shot a Bear. I definitely want an Invasion but my Guardian is treating me wonderful.
PM for peep info - not the place here.
Had two Guardians I got rid of as soon as the Invasion came out. Beats the heck out of me why I shoot the Bear better. That Invasion is everything I am looking for in a bow, but the Assault just eats up the spot.

What model Mathews is that in your avitar? Or maybe that's what it takes to finally get what you shoot with a Mathews to hit the ground.

not my animals. ive never had an animal go over 20 yards. i just spend a lot time tracking animals shot by people with mathews and bowtechs and what not. if you dont shoot hoyt you should have a excellent tracker like me on speed dial.
-
That dude Bear gave me your number! But, why don't you post it on here so everyone has it! Just in case they shoot a poor baby deer with a Hoyt and need some help finding it.

son you best come huntin with me then :o
-
Bowtech is named that because you need to bring a bow tech with you whenever you go shooting...
Mathews... slowcam...
Hoyt... also marketed as a boat anchor :tung:
bear... cheap copies...
... see if I can rile anybody up. :chuckle:
They all make a good bow. I shoot pse because I like them best. And they seem to fit me real well.
back in the 80s I would kill alot of sheet with my old bear bow ... and never shot at deer more than 35 yrds and If I was only in P.A now I would have many more whitetail on the wall because of the distances I can shot now ....I need to go dig out my old bear bow and show ya ...it killed a few in its day and I will never get rid of it !

man your being mean tonight :chuckle: :chuckle: :tung: do i need to change my aviator to something big killed with a Mathews ? :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno: I can :o

I take quite a few bear in this state with the rifle too. Just feels good once in a while to sit on top of the mountain and whack-em from a distance. Plus, our berry bowl is getting so over grown you really got to get up high to get a clear shot. Just rebuilt an old A-Bolt 7mm that's driving tacks. Just might need to get some blood on it this weekend.
Sorry if I'm getting too mean. Marriage had that effect on me. Blame the Hoyt shooting squaw!!!
-
Not too mean, RadSav. :chuckle:
My buddy has been carrying a rifle and I take my bow. If we can't figure out how to get to it with the bow he's just going to shoot it. Works for me.
-
Nice thing about the Eberlestock. It's too damn heavy, but the rifle is always right there if I decide to make the long boom stick poke on a blackie, yote or bobbie.
-
Sounds like anyone who wants a recommendation for a great prositute or needs help tracking a wounded animal needs to have bloodhounds phone number on speed dial. :chuckle:

WSUCowboy - What's with the duck? You transfering to Oregon or is there a story behind that critter?
What happened to this thread? Everyone must be mad or just doing a little research on where my house is. Just to warn you Hoyt guys - I sleep with a light sleeping squaw and she's a pistol packing crazy woman!
-
Boy I sure hope she is nicer than you :chuckle: :chuckle: :yike:

Only if your not her husband ;) Took about 15 years of marraige before I slept with both eyes closed. We keep the S&W on my side of the bed at night - just in case I do something in my sleep she could take offense to! 50% Creek/50% Irish - scalp you first and then blow you up. Now I've scared myself - no longer worried about those Hoyt guys. Just PMS :o

:chuckle:

That darn Hoyt shooting squaw just updated my resume'
Current = Jack Ass :yike:
2007-2010 = Bear shooting Arse Hole :tung:
1989-2006 = Hoyt Dork :o
1980-1988 = Slutty tramp chaser and bear killing machine :chuckle:
I think the S&W and all kitchen knives are going to spend the night in the safe with a new combo!
-
I shoot a mathews and would never shoot anything else. I believe 100% that if you shot a mathews you would stick with it.
-

:yeah:
-
You wouldn't be able to afford shooting anything else at least.
-
You wouldnt need to I bought my old mathews 10 years ago and it still shoots great with no issues. I bought a DXT 2 years and dont plan on buying a new one for many years. That being said I have no issue paying more money for a better product :twocents:
-
HOYT I like to run my bow over jut to watch my buddies faces.
-

No, Limbsaver, I wont pay extra just to have a designer name brand!
-
All 3 of those bows are good BUT I never had any issues with my Mathews which I have had over 10yrs now and shot thousands & thousands of arrows threw except changing my strings every couple years ...
-
Started out with a Mathews Q2XL, great bow. Switched to a Bowtech Tribute a few years ago, their customer service was second to none!
-
I bought my Hoyt due to the light weight, Carbon Matrix. But I really like the PSE Axe, probably my next bow....
