I am a relatively new elk hunter and was wondering if anyone has any info on the elk hunting in this gmu?

Typically people wont talk about NE WA elk. They are there but you have to find them yourself. It took me years tp pin point them in 121, I have no idea where they are in 117 but they are there.

There's some big bulls up there, but getting info will be hard. Not alot of them up there so those of us who know where to go keep spots to our selves. Sorry. BTW, there's more moose then elk these days in 49.

there seems to be a lot of private land around spokane... more than I'm used to, growing up in walla walla. maybe we just knew more of the landowners, but access has been a little tough up here. good luck to you! i would love to find some elk property, but the 160 acres of private ground i hunt is exclusively deer. a neighbor saw a small heard of elk 10-odd years ago, one time.

117 isnt around Spokane... theres lots of land to hunt and yes there is alot of moose, but there is alot of elk if ya can find them. Best thing to do (if bowhunting) is to be out in the woods at dark 2 am-5am and call... find elk that are talking and set up on them come morning

I do a lot of turkey hunting in the area and see elk every year. Saw a few nice bulls this year, but talking to the F&W guy this year it apparently is a zoo in that area for elk. I've never seen big enough numbers to get me excited enough to hunt them in that area.

They are there...not as many as people claim. I grew up in Chewelah and have hunted 121 and 117 for years. Low numbers over hunted and fairly nomadic. You've got a better chance of killing a moose with a stick then an elk with anything in those GMUs....or a pumpkin...lots of those,

I have been scouting a spot in that area since may and have had lots of bulls that come in regularly. I want to set a ground blind near the food plot and see what happens but the elk are starting to move at night, although the bucks are moving during the day.

These are from 117 but its like looking for a needle in a hay stack. but yes they are there

Are these out where I told you to look for moose? Sure looks like the area. Any luck with the moose?

nice couple of bulls there... I think the idea of getting out late at night and doing some calling for locating is a good one! You can probably cover a lot of ground on roads doing that since they seem to be well spaced in the area :)
Good luck,
Fulla

Your post started off with lots of private land around Spokane ... just stating that as nothing to do with what he asked. Sounded like you were talking about 127 or 124.
and for the people who say there's few elk :chuckle: take up bowhunting
