no *censored*ry taken. had i not seen the bear walk away and take every log apart to check for bugs and rodents, i would have went to check. when i got the video back home, i could see where the bullet was hitting. it was far, but doable had i known the range.

what caliber gun you shooting and what bullets and how far was it you think ?oh lord, here we go. i was shooting 3006 with 180 remington psp. zero at 200. i thought it was about 350 so i aimed about a foot or so over. did not take the steep downhill into account either. i think it was more like 300. the down hill was deceiving and across the drainage.

That's the part I was hoping to see before I commented. The video didn't show you going to check for blood and you said something like "eh, watcha gonna do?", but if you got to watch the bear keep on doing his thing then it's all good. Maybe a little lesson on judging range for the future and an empty walk back to the truck, but no harm. Patience and know your limits.
Looks like good country down there.

the segment of video while shooting is actually 14 minutes long. i cut it short, well, cause its boring. it shows the bear digging on a log for about 5 full minutes.

That is exactly why I use the yardage pro laser rangefinder scope with BDC turrets. Looking through my scope, hit the remote on the forarm of my rifle and walah....instant range to target, dial in the yardage, hold for wind and smack. I can say, I have never missed an animal with that scope. :chuckle: I wouldnt trade that scope for any leupold on the market today. Maybe a Nightforce tho.....I would have to think long and careful about it tho.
You might want to read your hunting regs son.

I think because its a Rangefinder scope? Just like the flashlight on a bow or gun issue. No Electronics on your gun or bow. Illegal in this state for all big game I believe.

i wouldnt worry about it dude, often on this sight i have seen many a fella get his actions torn apart and analized on the do's and donts of whatever, i wish i could see the video, but it wont come up on are computer. bet you still had fun even though you didnt connect, and i bet you can go right back to the same spot and get another crack at him, if there is one thing i know about bear is they are animals of habit, so if he was finding good food where you saw him he will be back there, good luck to ya
thank you kindly sir. yes, i absolutely had a great time, bear or not. i was kind of expecting to get bombarded with wisdom. it becomes quit the show, but thats ok, as long as the *censored* bags stay off. you know the ones. i did get the gun this year and obviously need to practice down hill. i will have a rangefinder next time for sure. i don't really rifle hunt that much, and would prefer to arrow one, but the preparation to do so is limiting. so i decided to get me a good gun and go for it this year. i haven't killed a bear before and was wanting one regardless of size.....well unless it was dripping from uterus fluid, then maybe not so much. it may be my first time to bear hunt, but im not new at this. been hunting a long time. mainly archery hunt elk and deer the last 20 years or so. rifle when i was a kid growing up. thanks again.
