Went out for opening weekend of bear season and every where I wanted to go I kept bumping into elk. Nice problem to have. No luck finding any bears or sign but took some video of some of the elk I found. Cows were real vocal. Only saw a few calves but the brush was so thick they could have been right in front of me.

Thanks. Last season we did not see a single elk in this area. The other elk camps said the same thing. We could tell they had been there within a week but once season starts they disappear. A local told me that the WDFW does a population survey with helicopters right before season starts. I dont know if I believe that but those elk sure did leave the area. Hopefully we can find them this year. I tried real hard not to spook any of them.

A helicopter survey a week before the season starts?..........that's why you don't see any.....they know their being counted. :chuckle:

"Elk Butt" made me lol... I've driven to Portland twice in the last week and each time it was very difficult to not just jump off the I-5 and go explore the Toutle and areas down there. Wishful thinking...

Very cool video, I might have to ditch the can-am and get my mtn bike :)

Nice scouting trip. I hope no more helicopter this year.
