Ok so after much razing from the Mrs about "why do you need all those toys?" I have come to realize it is a bit silly. It was just 10 years ago that a paper map, compas, 35 mm camera "for after the kill pics" was all the technology I needed for a successful hunt and adventure. A couple of mornings hanging out at the local coffees shop with the old timers was all the networking needed. Also have not seen an increase in my kill Ratio. However I still love my gadgets and don't plan on going backward!
Ipad, HD video glasses, night optics, game ears, rino gps, wrist watch gps, droid x etc....
What kind of cadets or technolgy do you now rely on in the woods?
-
a garmin, a kinfe, thermacell in the early fall, my cellphone and my weapon of choice(range finder also if my bow is the weapon). thats about all my gadgets.. :dunno:
-
Rely on? Not many.
My crappy cell phone pukes out at the pavement usually, don't ask my carrier, sort of embarassing carrying the kiddie phone...
I have a gps I turn on ever so often, usually just to get my elevation, never use it to navigate, usually know my areas well, but will use it in fog in a new area to get my bearings and put myself on a physical map...
The only "technology" I rely on is my radio to keep in touch with hunting buddies.
I carry a SPOT, to send the wife an I am OK message each morning and night that I am solo hunting...
-
My bow and all it's attached gadgets...getting a new one in the mail tomorrow Quicktune sizzor. Rangefinder, Garmin Colorado 400t, Spot messenger (now they make one that connects to your smartphone and can send text messages through satellites)...have not gotten that one...yet. Have a solar battery for my phone.

Common sense. I do have the cool fancy stuff, but it makes it's more difficult because you're always looking at the damn stuff and not paying attention.
-
in the woods i have a range finder and bino's but the only thing i rely on is my truck, my aim, and my back in that order!
-
I carry a gps but usually mark camp and then never turn it on again. :dunno:
I carry a rangefinder, but don't ever remember using it for actually ranging an animal I was going to take.
I don't consider my binos a gadget.
I always carry a camera, but again, not sure thats a gadget.
Looks like I don't NEED anything.
-
Rhino, range finder, Field glass, cell phone, Ipod (to keep track of hunts)
-
I carry a Rhino that rarely gets used, and a rangefinder that also rarely gets used. I rely on my binos, and my rifle, as well as my boots. I usually take my cell phone, but it is turned off. I don't like electronics when I am hunting.
-
Garmin csx60, range finder, binoculars, and my cell (which I use as my camera). I Never use the gps at all. It seems like it's all distraction from what I am out there doing in the first place! I couldn't imagine bringing an iPad!

I like that. Might add legs or feet to the equation.
I am gadget poor. Too dang much to carry. If I have room I pack food. :chuckle: I need a good mule I guess. (camera equipment aside.)
-
I'm curious what the HD Video Glasses are for?
As far as gadgets go, its a Garmin 60CSx, cell phone (stays off to save the battery), binoculars, and a camera. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary.
-
I dont take much in the way of gadgets... I have a gps I only use for elevation, digital camara, and cell phone for emergencies.
-
Lot of people bragging about how "little" they bring. I'm more interested in people that go into the woods loaded up. I want to know what that one thing that I don't have but must have. :)
-
Forgot to add my thermocell and as of yesterday a solar battery charging system. Gotta love the toys.
-
You do the charger in response to one of my posts? Mine was from Edmund Scientific and it's actually a battery that charges with the solar panel. At end of day can just hook battery into phone. Had to order the one adapter that was not included with the battery separately.
-
This is a roll out solar pad with a 12v and usb 2,5 watt out put. You can add a battery pack. Can't wait to try it.
-
Built a solar / battery powered water pump and Accessories charging unit for elk camp. Also built a weir box to supply water from a spring. Power it with a deep cycle battery and a 15 watt solar panel. Plumbed a line to a cooper coil buried under the camp fire pit. How have electric lights and hot and cold running water in elk camp this year.

Just a Rhino that rarely gets looked at. Once in awhile on the after dark return to camp I may look at it to see if I got turned around if things don't feel right.
