the last two days i have bin bear hunting hard with my new bow and yesterday passed a bear witch looked to be 160-180 it had really big and pointed ears so i decided it was to young and small but i had him dead to rights at twenty yards while he was on his back feet just staring at me. but today i went to a new area and as i came out of this thick scotch broom trail i decided to stop and let every thing quiet down because i was making noise but after siting for a min or so then i realized a big bear was only fifteen yards from me but between us was a twelve foot tall BlackBerry thicket and he was on the other side snorting and blowing and broke a alder and stomped the ground and just riping the ground up and was just showing alot of anger so i just moved a little bit and set up hoping he would find a way through the sticker bushes but after he stoped and did not come into view i started snorting and kicking bushes and he did not come out and i sat and sat and never saw it but i was wondering what could i of done to get him out in the open ? i tried to circle around but had no luck getting on him again.

I would of hit a distress call, you were making lots of noise you said then sat to be quite, so like a yote chasing a rabbit lots of noise a Lil silence then squeal.. worth a shot :dunno:

Are you sure it was not a boar expressing his displeasure at you being there? Has happened to me many times while working. Pretty much exactly as you described. The big boy's will challenge you. Can get a little disconcerting when they follow you, but a good thing when you are hinting. Normally they will stay in cover.

Sounds like he knew you were a human and was upset. Probably nothing you could have done to get him to come out beside cornering him.
Here is a cool video of a nice sized boar huffing at a hunter. You can tell he really does not want to be there but doesnt want to turn his back either.
Fast forward to 6:50

Circle around him/her while trying to stay down wind while he's huffing. If you're up wind and pretty sure he won't come through the blackberry thicket and, just want to get him to move so you can move on, take a piss on the biggest maple leaf you can find.

well good luck on a big bear sorry that one didnt work out

kain - it was kinda like that but louder and way more aggressive while braking stuff
jackofalltrades- i did circle but so did the bear so i was practically chasing my tail

Sounds like he just wanted to get away. If you backed out of the area maybe he would have calmed down and made a mistake by running off thirty yards and stopping to look back. :dunno: I have spooked tons of animals that do this when they dont feel so threatened.
