Seems likes its pretty hard to find arrows with the right weight. I know my 100 grn muzzys will add weight but im trying not to go to heavy, I wanna stay close to the 420 weight since I have a 70 lb draw. What arrows are everybody shooting with 70 lb pull?
-
ACC Pro Hunter or Carbon Express Hunter KV for me when hunting Washington. I have 27.5" arrows so I have to drop a few pounds too. Damn expensive so I don't shoot as many grouse with the bow as I used to. Now I carry a .410 in the truck - shot shells are cheaper!
-
I shoot a Beeman ICS 300 with blazers and a 100 grain heads. Puts me in at 423 to 425.
Draw is 30 at 70LBS.
-
I'm shooting Axis nFused 340s with Blazers, wrap and 100gr G5 Strikers. Right in the 415 range.
-
When I shot 70#, I just had to leave my Cabelas Carbon Hunters at their full length to get the correct wieght. This is a ridiculous requirement. A minimum weight fine, but this is goofy.
-
70lb draw Easton axis .300 29.5" 100gr muzzy brass insert 125gr magnus stinger. 575gr total. Quite a ways from the 420gr that you want tho. :chuckle:
-
Not sure why you want to avoid a heavier broadhead. My 70# draw shoots a lot better with 125 grain heads than 100's. I shoot Beman MFX 300's at 28 1/8 inch arrow length, 29 inch draw on my Mathews Z7. Heavier arrowhead is going to give you better kinetic energy and FOC. The difference in impact point within 50 yards is negligible and past 50 yards with the increased FOC you will be more consistent and still have downrange kinetic energy to make the kill. The heavier arrow lets you put more of the energy stored in the bow into the flight of the arrow (less is converted to vibration and noise).

I would look at the goldtips, either the expeditions at .006 or the xt's in .003. I have shot a lot of different arrows and they have always performed great. You would want the 5575's.

How long? Mine with virtually the same setup are 465 grains on a scale. 4 Blazers and 30" long or so...I can't remember exactly.

I added up what everything was supposed to be (nock, vanes, wrap, insert, broadhead) because I don't have a scale. So, mine might be "unscientific" but hopefully within a few grains of accurate. 28" arrows.
-
I would bet you are closer to 450g.
-
I'll go back and re-add everything up. Maybe my math skills suck.
-
Lol no worries. Sometimes the figures they give for the weight of stuff is off a little. Sounds like you are almost the same as josh and just 2 inches shorter. Those shafts are probably around 8g or so a inch so that would be like 16g less then his and would put you right at 450g. If you know anyone who reloads. Just use there scale and check them.
-
Alright, just came up with a scale. The arrow actually weighs 419.3gr.
Pretty close to what I was guessing. I wonder what the difference between our arrows are.
The arrows are 9.6 gr/in, so I guess that's almost 20 gr right there and an additional Blazer (I have 3) is something like 6gr. Are the broadheads 125s? If so, that would explain the difference pretty well - almost exactly.
-
Shooting 100 gran slick tricks. Long wraps, 4 blazers. I think my arrows are 30.5" so I think we're right on the money, or thereabouts anyway. I weighed 3 different arrows on the same scale, all of them were exactly 465 grains.
-
gold tip expedition 55/75.. I am shooting 125gr muzzy's though just because they fly better for me. I have mine turned down to about 67 now though..
-
I have Carbon Impact arrows and they are the 6500 and I have a 30 inch arrow and Im at 416 grains
-
Anybody shoot the carbon storms?
-
My bow is set up at 68lbs for the draw weight. I have a 28" draw length. I shoot 27" Easton Axis N-Fused 340's. I shoot a 125 grain Slick Trick Magnum broadhead. The total weight for my setup is 425 grains. My FOC is 14.5%. I don't shoot a speedbow by an means and even with my shorter draw length my bow still shoots this combo at 269 fps with 68 ft lbs of energy. Even at 50 yds my energy is 57ft lbs. More than enough for an elk. With a 100grain broad head I forget the numbers but I lost alot more energy out at 50yds. Yes it was faster out of the gates but by 40yds my heavier broadhead caught up with the lighter one. :twocents:
An FYI to people. Easton Nocks are 9 grains and Easton Inserts are 16 grains. According to their website.

I'm glad I found this. Just got my first bow and looked into arrows. Wow, $90 for just 12 arrows! I realize you can add the broad heads so if your careful they should be the only 12 you need but dang. Was wondering if a guy uses the calculator if that should get you close to the right length and then just find them online?
Also without starting WW3 whats the advice on weight? Always get the heaviest that you can shoot consistent or is it like a gun and certain poundages lend themselves well to certain weights?
-
I'm shootin' 30" Maxima Hunters with weight forward built into the shaft, 125 GR Slick Trick Magnums, & 2" Blazer vanes. Total weight is 430 GR. My PSE Axe 7 is spittin' 'em out around 285 FPS, accurate enough to shoot the eyelash off a fly at 50 yards ;)

I like the middle of the road myself. Heavy enough to carry the weight downrange, yet fast enough it that helps with accuracy. For me that's 430 GR with my current set up.
-
I think its all about trajectory. Wet side elk I'd go heavy. Eastside mulies I'd go right at 6gpp. Its all about what, where, and how your hunting. :twocents:
-
I will err on the side of speed rather than heavier weight. I try and stay close to the 6gpp. I have had no problem killing bears and elk with passthroughs using a 60lb bow and 360 grain arrow. Ruhr now I am set with 64 lb draw and 385 grain arrow. Shooting 290-295.

has anybody ever been checked?

Mazyham 350s 100 grain tip 444 grains
