Alright posting on here to see what ya'll think. I have a stevens 325-s 30/30 want to have my dad use it this upcoming season. Here my dilemma he needs a scope on it. However this gun is not drilled or tapped and funds are super tight right now. Do you think if I were to jb weld or locktite a scope mount on to the rifle if would hold steady enough to take it out..or would the force and recoil probably jar things loosey goosey thanks for your guys' input.
-
It won't hold. JB Weld is good for many things, but mounting scopes to rifles isn't one of them.
-
Is there anything on the market that might hold better? Brownells acra glass? locktite? WHat if i used metal hose clams tightened the sh!t out of em? ny ideas would be helpful
-
The only thing that will hold tight enough is to have it drilled and tapped. I understand that funds are tight, but anything less would simply be wasting your time and energy. :twocents:

:yeah:. what about letn him use your rifle, if it has a scope and you shoot open sights, or its gonna have to be tapped and threaded :sry:

alright well maybe i will just look into having a nice peep sight put on it since its pre drilled for that, Thanks.

Do that, otherwise you're crazy for thinking any of the other options you mention will work.
(You said to call you crazy)

Word for word what I was going to say. Peep sight all the way.
-
You might as well use bubble gum. Its cheaper, plus you get to chew on it for a while. :chuckle: Everytime you fire the rifle, its probably like taking a hammer and smacking the scope mounts. You sound like my dad. He uses hose clamps and jb weld on any and everything. Oh yea, your'e CRAZY.
-
have to be handy on the spot, looks like afterall I will have it drilled and tapped. Found a place in spokane where they'll do it for 60 bucks, already have the bracket and thee scope just need to buy the rings of amazon and will be set to go for about 100 bux after gas. Looked at peep sights and they're pricier than i thought they would be.

Crazy is posting a response. But I say Gorilla Glue and rubber bands.
-
Aw, ya can't blame someone for looking to save money when times are tough. It's just that for some things, there aren't any shortcuts.
-
A 30-30 doesn't need a scope. That rifle is far better with open sights.
-
buzz over to plummer and see mel doyle. he will possibly do it while you wait.
-
Do you have his contact everything I google come back as disconnected
-
I thought those were drilled an tapped for scope mounts... It is a side mount that I have seen on many of them.
Or am i thinking about the wrong gun?
-
I believe the savage 340 is pre drilled for a scope mount(this is the version before it became a savage) it has two holes in the rear for a peep sight but not the four needed for a sidemount.
-
Found a number that got through to him. Probably gonna take it up there once I get the mount in the mail. Thanks for the heads up!
-
Are you sure that there is not 4 holes running parallel to the stock on the left side of the action? I just have never seen any of those rifles that did not have them. Are you sure it is not a 325-A? From just a little digging I find that only the earliest models were not pre drilled from the factory.
-
yup reading right off the barrel. Stevens 325-c. All the 325-c's I've seen online have had to be drilled and then the stock cut down .
-
Thanks for the clarification, in the original post you put 325-s, that was what confused me.

-
