Grew up down there. Lotsa elk if your willing to work for it. Where are your buddies located? There's a lot of space in those units. Still, I may have worked some of the same ground they do now. Biggest bull of my life came out of the Tioga.

Hunted the Tioga many years ago. Alot of elk, very brushy and very steep. Had some real close calls with bears in there as well. We hunted out of Roseburg down off of the main Umpqua.l Archery? Or modern? I hunted archery down there.

We were modern hunters. We were on the west side of the unit. More towards Coquille. Your right about steep and brushy. That type of hunting is not for everyone but I love it.
I still help my 83 year old father every year down there as he still buys a tag. Got him on a 6x6 at 150 yds last year. He let it walk because it was the day before Thanksgiving and he didn't want me spending time working on the animal rather than being with family. He just enjoys getting out there with me I guess. It's not about busting bulls any more. He bought another tag this year. Maybe he'll pull the trigger this time...

We hunted rifle season down in the Tioga quite a few years ago. Like someone above mentioned Very steep in a lot of areas and as you would expect in the coast range brushy. Lots of elk though, we weren't able to get anything but wee in them just couldn't get on a legal bull. Saw some good ones come out of there though.

I grew up down there as well. My parents still live in Roseburg and have some nice property for the whitties. My dad puts in LOP tags and we hunt it every other year for them. I remember numerous times headed to the coquille river steelhead fishing seeing elk on the hill side. When those critters get spooked, its like someone picked them up and moved them. So quite in the brush its unbelievable.
If your hunting Modern its a draw tag. I think they usually have OTC tags left over each year. Oregon gives out around 2100 if my memory serves me right. Can be a productive unit if you know were to go.

Your right, it can be a productive unit if you know where to go. I can always find elk down there. Growing up in the area means you should know area that most would overlook. I used to buy a tag and hunt down there with my father, but the cost just got too high. Now I'm just there to find them and pack one out if he pulls the trigger.
