Finished this one up a few weeks ago. Been working on it for 10 months between customers builds, and she is finally done. Several of my clients have asked me to put together what I thought would be a great all around rifle for the way we hunt. Mobile enough to hunt timber, yet stable enough to stretch things out, light enough to pack. I chose 7mm WSM for its ballistics, low recoil, and the 180 Berger! So what we ended up with is a rifle that weighs 9.3lb s with the NF ready to hunt with benchrest accuracy. Here are the specs:
R Bros Rogue Action
Broughton R Bros Contour 26" fluted, 1-9 twist
Seekins Detachable AI bottom metal
20 MOA Rail
Jewell Trigger
Manners T2 Stock
DE Brake
DE Cheekpiece
R Bros Woodland camo stock
Matte Black Gunkote metal
NF 5.5-22x50mm NP-R1 Reticle
180 bergers at 3040fps

Danged fine looking gun. Mind if I ask what something like that would cost?

NICE!

Reminds me of of one of my girlfriends, the really fun one!! :IBCOOL:

I got a Kimber Montana in 7mmWSM that weighs in around 7 lbs. A 165 gr load almost produces shoulder separation. "Low recoil" is not a term I would use for this caliber...but maybe the two extra lbs makes a difference.
Not to take away from the work, it is obviously a well built custom rifle and good looking to boot. Glad to see others using this great caliber.

I just put a 26" Kreiger with a 10 twist on my Kimber Montana for the 168's. I used a 7/300 wsm reamer so I could neck down Norma brass (and start with good brass). We did some serious stock work with the factory stock that included some epoxy, and aluminum tube, and alumaglass. It'll get a custom hydroprint coating in Uncle Ted signature zebra pattern and 5.5-22 NF.
That is some fine gunsmithing work!

Lookin good

Looks good Travis! I love the 7WSM, just switched to one this year for hunting.
Shooting any 3-gun?

With the muzzle brake, recoil is about like a 243. My girlfriend is 105lbs and she shoots is just fine :)
Actionshooter, been to busy getting everyone's stuff ready for hunting season. Haven't shot a 3gun since Ironman. We are going to go down to Area 1 Multigun in Oct. though. You going?

Yeah, I shoot a 7lb8oz browning A-bolt 325 wsm the recoil is surprisingly mild and my girlfriend shoots a browning A-bolt 270wsm. those Kimbers are nice too i love my eclipse.

Nice freaking rifle rbros!
... waiting for my NF right now.. Cant wait to get it mounted up to the 300 RUM.

There is a lot to like about a 180 berger. I like an uglier gun as the bulllets tend to run away from them. A beauty like that may be tough to get much velo as the bullets will want to hang out with the cool kid.

Thanks guys. Shot it the other day and put 3 shots in .348" outside to outside......thats .064" group at 100yds from a bipod on the ground. Moved out to my 1k target and put 5 shots in just under 4". Pretty happy with its performance so far.

I am surprised that you can get 3040 fps from a 180 grain bullet from the 7WSM. My brother has a 300 WSM and gets in the high 2900 to low 3000 fps range. I shoot a 300 Win Mag and can get over 3100 if I push it but again it is quite surprising to me you can get that velocity. What powder do you use? How many times can you reload the ammo before the primer pockets are too stretched to hold a primer? Thanks, Rufous.

Wasn't really to much of a problem. Of all the ones I have built for guys, the lowest was 2980 with the 180. My chamber is designed a little differently and Broughton's are generally a little faster. Have verified it out to 1600yds this last weekend and its spot on. I use H1000 and Federal 215M primers. So far I have 7 firings on the same cases (30) I have been using to break it in and range test and the primer pockets are still fine.

His barrel length being 26 inches too adds another 100 fps.. On a short action that is a long barrel.

That is a gorgeous build right there Travis! You guys are putting together some of the best looking tactical and hunting rigs I've seen in some time. Not to mention the fact that you shot a 4" group at 1K! That alone blows my perception of what a hunting rifle is capable of..... what kind of barrel life expectancy are getting from the 7WSM?

Getting over 3000fps out of this gun should be NOOO problem. I shoot a A-bolt Micro Hunter II 300WSM 180 grn Serria Pro hunter bullet 64 gr 4350 and easily get 3100 fps out of it. That is verified through the chrono, so your brother should be getting better than 2900 if he wanted to.

I have a couple guys that have close to 1700 rounds down theirs and they are still shooting under 1/2moa.
-
Travis, you have any .25 takeoffs laying around?
-
I think I have a 25-06 SS sporter barrel. I will check later and let ya know. If its still there, its brand new and never fired.
-
Please do.
Thanks.
