Title: Jury Duty, WHAT!
Post by: blindpig on August 29, 2011, 04:32:48 PM
Drew a cow elk tag in a good unit and BAM..Jury duty.  Its municpal jury duty so maybe it won't b much of anything.  This sucks.  I don't mind doing my share of civil service but man, not during elk season.

Easy solution...when asked if you can be fair and impartial, tell the judge that you will give anyone a fair trial....right before you hang them.   :chuckle:  :yike:

Lets you out EVERY time.  :dunno: :IBCOOL:

(JUST KIDDING FOLKS 0 Jury duty is an important part of what legal system we have left.  Dont leave it to the daytime soap hopper and QVC shopper to dispense what is needed....GO DO IT YOURSELF)

Just ask to be rescheduled to a later date.......If they ask why, inform them that you have a vation planned at the same time. Most time all you have to do is ask to reschedule and they will no questions asked.

Any time a jury duty summons has come at a bad time for me, I've called the Clerk's office and aked to be resceduled.  They have been real good at doing this, especially if they know that you aren't just trying to weasel out of it entirely.  They just take the names from the pool as the computer spits them out.  Adjustments can be made.

I got called for jury duty for the same time period as I was going to be gone for a Wyoming hunt a few years back.  Made the call to re-schedule due to a vacation.  No problem, did my service a few months later in February.

Like gasman said never had an issue rescheduling; I've done it three times. The last one I said hay guys it's been less than a year since I was on a jury and after 4 years never been called again.

I know what you mean.  Im active duty Navy and a Oregon resident.  I got a nice notice during the season for jury duty.  7 hours from were I live in Washington.   :yike:  The state of Oregon provided a phone number to call to reschedule.  It was pretty easy for Oregon.  They actually took me off the list.  But like I said Im active duty though.  Dont know if there is a number for Washington.   :dunno:

Good luck with the reschedule. I think that I would freak out if I got a notice right now. :yike: Hopefully I am not the one to replace you when you reschedule. :chuckle:

They will reschedule.  Tell them you have a business trip scheduled but that you are available the month after.

Tell them you believe in hearing all of the evidence before convicting the criminal. Seriously, you should be able to get a reschedule if you ask.

I have had mine rescheduled.  Choose the week prior to Christmas.  Trials have a habit of being canceled during that time.

If that fails, Tell them to direct all questions to the sock puppet you are wearing on your right hand.  Answer all questions in a cartoon voice in a poorly executed attempt at ventriloquism.

I get called to jury duty fairly regularly. I finally asked why none of my neighbors had been called and found out that the lists of potential participants came from several sources and my name was listed as "first middle last", "first MI last", "First Last". Therefore I was in the pool as 3 people.

Still have never received a request for jury duty.  Would like to do it one fo these days.

However on a different but kinda similar note  :chuckle:, I just got a speeding ticket, and the courts scheduled my contested hearing the week of modern deer season  :yike:  :bash: Might just take the deferral offer and hope I don't get another ticket in the next year.  :dunno:

Im active duty, and have received the letter a few times.  I just go to my chain of command and get a letter stating Im active duty and can deploy at any time.  Yes they always seem to come around hunting season, and with the trend of my selection, im screwed when I retire.

I have been on three.  No big deal... But there are some dumb SOB's out there and do not go 100% by facts and data.  They like to feel good when they discipline.

I just do not understand why the courts or even my wife cannot understand.  When it is hunting season, nothing else matters and to leave me alone.  Life needs to go on without me and I will forget about it and work until I return with either my tag or animal in hand..

I was told that having those 2 items adds you to the pool 2 times more than a renter and non voter.

Jury duty varies from county to county. If you are in a county where the jury clerk allows for flexibility, that is great. But in some counties if you are a smart a**,
you can get into big trouble. You could be found in contempt of court and spend time in jail or on a work crew cleaning toilets each weekend.
In my county, you have to serve. You can reschedule, but you have to serve. Sometimes if you have an unusual excuse or are being a smart a**, you will get a writ requiring you to appear before the judge and explain yourself. If you are found to be lying by the judge, that is perjury.
Bottom line. Be respectful.

Who said it was a lie?  Serving is serving... IMHO it doesn't matter when you do it.
