Really though, it takes a good amount of luck to bump into one, let alone get a shot. Idaho is so heavily timbered in most areas that a sighting is an accomplishment, let alone taking one. That's why the good ol' boys over there haven't been able to put a stop to their spreading. Believe me, they've been trying since they were first released. If you're serious about killing a wolf, not just buying a tag for the off chance of getting a crack at one, I'd go to the most densely populated areas and cross your fingers. :dunno:

Great idea, so every H-W member who bags a wolf and submits a decent photo will get their photo on the front page for a month. :tup:

Post by: jackmaster on August 31, 2011, 12:13:03 PM: can you hunt wolves at night in idaho or do the daylight shooting hours apply, cause at night they are fairly easy to locate, i have a couple buddys that hunt in idaho every year and they hear them howling at night all the time... and yes they do know the differance between a coyote howl and a wolf howl...

I'd guess it's the fear of the tree huggers suits and getting the tag yanked out from under them.
Having sold what looks like about 2,000 tags in just the past 48 hours tells me the first wave was waiting to see if there was an 11th hour stay of wolf executing by our not so favorite Montana judge.
When deer/elk seasons come around, particularly rifle, I'd expect to see another spike in numbers.
Heck, I might buy one just because I'm driving through ID to get to WY in October. :mgun2:

i hear that, my buddy is going elk huntn there and i am trying to get him to let me buy the tag for him and if he kills one then i get the hide

I was bowhunting.. My prayers go out to anyone with a wolf tag. Fill it!

Post by: get one leakin on September 01, 2011, 09:37:14 PM: Also they do have quota in some areas so deer and elk hunters might be waiting to see if the quota in their area is full before their season opens. Hopefully they put a hurt on them but is not so easy. We have hunted right in the area where they released the wolves and there are tons of deer and elk for 5 yrs and have only had one wolf that we could have killed. Hear them every night and see their tracks and kills but they are pretty weary. In '09 there we 100 hunters we talked to, everyone had tags, nobody took a shot.... myself included...
