What is the Best portable camp shower available? I have only had experience with the zodi shower from wal-mart and it sucked. I didn't want hijack 300rum's topic so i thought i would start a new thread.

I'm not sure about the best, but we just use a 5 gal. solar shower bag. We use a pot on the turkey fryer to heat the water. 1 part hot: 4 cold. hang the bag off a limb/nail and stick one of those long narrow funnels in it to dump the water in with. It's cheap and works like a charm.

Guess it depends on your type of camp. I do a wilderness hunt, so for me it's the big H2O bag that you fill with water and leave out in the sun all day to warm up then hang from a tree. If it's just a backpacking only, it's a sponge bath with a bandana in hot soapy water. You're probably talking more about butane or power heated showers though, so can't help with that.

Some shower bags also have a temp gauge on the side so you don't burn your ass.

If it's a backpacking trip then it's baby wipes all the way.

I like a hot shower the zodi was nowhere near warm enough

I was watching one of those 'survival' shows on TV recently and they suggested using a clean (new) pump up garden sprayer for camp showers, saying it was far better than solar showers etc.. I haven't tried one yet but plan to...

i built my shower that goes inside my walltent its 3x3x5ft high i have a 30 gallon steel water tank that i fill with the right temp water and then i have a shower pump that is submersible and i can take a long hot shower which is nice after one of those cold misserable hunts, oh and i made the bottom out of pond liner that drains to the outside through a piece of garden hose, it isnt meant for hiking trips those are baby wipe hunts but where ever my walltent goes the shower goes right along with it

I bought 2 portable showers that work off a pump, 4 'D" batteries.
put the pump in a large pot of water, works great ! (so good I bought an extra "just in case")

Homemade 5 gallon bucket with elcheapo shower head attachment. I indexed the bucket with an elmarko pen to indicate duration of shower you will get....IE: 3 minute, 5 minute, 7 minute... Bring a baby bath thermometer to float in the water. Place a gallon of cold water in the bucket. Add piping water until the thermometer reads just right for your preferred temp. (check at home first...duh...)
Fill the bucket, pull the rope and tie above you in a tree, open the valve and enjoy a nice warm campshower... Works for me. Under 10 bucks...

We use a regular 5gal pump weed sprayer with a sink spray head. Heat about 1-2 gal of water fill the rest with cold water and your ready to shower. :IBCOOL:

The lightest weight and cheapest I know of is a two liter pop bottle; burn a bunch of holes thru the lid with a hot sewing pin.

I am not really concerned with small, cheap or light i just want the best semi-portable shower. My dad are messing with a 55gal food grade drum a torch some copper tubing and 350gph bilge pump a shower head some garden hose a jump box for the power source. the pressure is pretty good but were thinking of stepping up to a 500gph bilge other then needing to refine the heating process it's working great.

Sounds like you are really trying to "rough it". :chuckle:
-
...ya didn't say ya had a trailer for it... ;)

actually it's not that heavy until we get the water in the drum ;) we figured we would get camp set up then go fill the water drum and come back to camp . we always forget something in town

We have been using the bivouac buddy for years and we really like it. Instead of using the top to put the water in, we use the water off the wood stoves and put it into a cooler. Add cool water to make comfortable. A propane heater unit (Cabelas) heats water as needed and water goes up to the top of the shower by means of a small pump.
