Thought a few scenery pics are in order as this is some beautiful country I am so lucky to step foot in and hunt the majestic Wapiti. Been looking forward to this day for a few months, alot of prep, scouting, mapping and spending time with some quality people. This has been an great experience , one I will look back on for years to come. Hopefully I can do my part and put a bull on the ground but if I don't , it does not matter as I will be out hunting in some awesome country. Good luck to all you guys heading out for the opener whether it is for deer or elk . Have fun and enjoy yourselves!! This season only comes around once a year !! Don't take it for granted!!!
-
I hope you kill a biggun!
Have a great time.

Relax and breath, you got the opening day jitters i can hear it in your voice by the post.. Suck it all in!! you got a good tag and make the best of it, successful or not this is going to be a good year everything is lined up for it weather wise.. I want nothing but blue and calm skies, its the best for bow hunting, dealing with the meat is a different story but kick ass and enjoy yourself and weve talked about what you need to kill!.. Keep me posted, I wish i was there calling in that country!.. :hello:  :rockin:

-
Hey Buddy!! Thoughts and Prays are with you. Have a great time and just enjoy the hunt. Don't put any pressure on yourself, just work hard and have fun. Remember why we bow hunt BIG BULLS---FUN. Don't get discouraged and stay positive, you never know when that old bull will let his guard down. I can't wait to hear some of your stories. I know how passionate you are about hunting bulls, GOOD LUCK!!! John :hello:

Beautiful country! Good luck on the hunt!
-
Ok, I'll bite too. What state or providence is this in. Nothing more wanted, just didn't think we had any Sept 1 elk hunts in this state. Thanks, wish I could afford to go out of state more often. Been almost 13 years now since my last trip to Montana. Life just gets in the way.
-
That looks like Oregon....
-
I hope you know a good taxidermist for when you shoot a monster :chuckle:
:chuckle: :chuckle:

Good Luck, Charlie. Kill a big one and take lots of pictures. Most importantly have fun and everything will come together.

Washington state, westside archery permit, I think it's the only one with a 9/1 start date, so it shouldn't be hard to figure out where it is.

There's +/- 15 elk hunts in this state that start on 9/1 not counting the auction permits, raffle permits, incentive permits, etc. and apparently some that start in August although I haven't looked for them.

Has anybody got word on how day 1 and 2 have went for Bucklucky?

I don't get the whole secret behind which tag he's got? We don't need to know exactly what tag if he doesn't want to tell. But east, west, Wa, Or, or Mont. anything close would be nice.

There are several threads on the site about which tag he has.. Just an FYI. It's a Western, WA tag. Do some digging in the game regs, shouldn't be to hard to find a special permit that opens on September 1st for archery..

A little up date on charly's hunt I hunted with him the last few day's it sucks and the tag is junk I think he went home today.. on a serious note it seems a little early for the bulls being in full rut but we called some nice once and they are talking, but there coming in silent about 80 yards out and we would have them in under 40 yards but if you know the sack its brushy narly country.. we seen some nice bulls but the best is yet to come and he will have a nice one on the ground no dout in my mind.. I would say in about a week it will be red hot.. there still a little bit timid..

The word on the street is that Charlie's competition (other archery tag holder) harvested a 6x6 (290ish bull). There's been no sitings of the Gov or Raffle tag holders.

-
I Heard Charlie is hunting the Skookumchuck Dam Quality bull Tag first of it's kind. good luck Charlie. Rick :chuckle:
-
I am back from the blues but the truck is having issues and is in the shop awaiting a diagnosis of its issues :bash: I was planning on heading up to the nook today but its looking grim at best of that happening . Had a blast in the blues, didnt kill a spike but had opportunitys for sure. Had a giant 7xspike we tried to kill but the wind screwed us once again. If the good side was doubled up he would have been a 380 plus, absolute pig bull. Anyway , we will see.
-
good luck out there....crossing fingers its something simple and cheap on the rig :)
-
If the good side was doubled up he would have been a 380 plus, absolute pig bull
Wow! That would have been a really nice bull for a spike only hunt.
-

Trust me I about chit when I saw the spike side :chuckle: I told the wife I thought he was a 400 (excitement of seeing a giant bull got me) when I saw that left hand side, then he turned his head and had a big long spike :yike: 70 yards was just too far and was hoping to get him closer but the wind decided to swirl and all was done!! But was fun!!
-
Good Luck Charlie!! I killed another Bear and a Cow up NE
-
Good luck Chuck... hope the truck is an easy fix.
-

Bucklucky, I live in Mount Vernon and could probably be a chauffeur this weekend. Not sure what the roads are like up there, I have a crew cab F350 longbox. Let me know if you need some help!
-
Well the Toyota is all loaded up ready to roll, hope the 3 bad tierods hold up for this week long trip!! For everyone that has been stopping in and saying hi I wont be in the blue ford this time, and no trailor, probably just sleep out of the truck or possibly a tent??? I have a 91 Toyota extended cab wit 8 inches of lift Black fender flares and a red snug top canopy. I took the 38's off and threw on a set of 33's so the truck looks pretty ... well ..... dorky I guess is the correct term but not what I would actually say :chuckle: Ill be up there tonight around 11:00 !!!
-
would you just go kill something already :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
You guys may not even know if I kill something ..... I mean I'll just keep it a secret for awhile and keep you guys guessing just for fun :chuckle:

Actually , that 370 bull I killed ate real good. Actually it was truely great eating meat!!! I'll take my chances with eating the big boys for this tag :chuckle: I can always kill a cow late season around home  Oh I almost forgot there is all december in the nook to try and find a bull..... who knows how that would go though, probably pretty tough hunting??
-
50Cal and I went and talked to Charlie last night. He's got bulls all over him, he had one get within 3 yards yesterday. He also had a shooter bull in range but couldn't get the right angle on him. He's loving the wetside brush hunting for elk. :rockin:
-
Talked to Mrs. Bucklucky on the phone couple hours ago. She hasn't heard from Charlie all day. Hmmmmmm. . . . Last time that happened he was packing meat.

Awful quiet in this thread, I sure hope he got it done today or gets it done tomorrow because a Dec hunt would be very very tough.

All this for a Nutsack bull? We all know there are only 1 to 2 mature bulls in that area, its not like its the blues or the Colockum... :dunno: thats where everyone needs to be putting in for.
-
I managed to get a sneak preview of the pics.. Congrats Charlie! Now post the rest and a story! :chuckle:
-
Does that mean that my bull is #2 in line..... :chuckle:
-
I managed to get a sneak preview of the pics.. Congrats Charlie! Now post the rest and a story! :chuckle:
Yes. Heavy horns and lots of points, but man the story should come with the text message. :bash:
-
I heard some rumors that an archery hunter took a nice elk in the Nooksack yesterday. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-

ahem..there are no bulls in the blues the leprechaun killed the last one a while back and the bigfoots ate all the spikes
...and the colockum is patrolled by black helicopters and the bulls are all behind a high fence :dunno:
all that leaves is the nook, nut, sack or st. helens I hear there are lots of bulls there :dunno:
-
So any updates on this hunt yet .... the suspence is killing me :o
-
Not cool :chuckle:
-
Hahahaha, come on!
-
i think i hear a riot comin after that comment
-
So to cut to the chase, dont want to leave everyone in suspence . Here is my last day "meat" bull that I called in and killed at 9:05 a.m PST. He was a growly ol'hrd bull that I had been wanting to get a look at the past 3 days , well he messed up this time .
Id write a story but in all reality I'll never get to it. All I can say is I had a great time , passed alot of great bulls. Missed a dandy and called in plenty, even a couple to 3 and 5 yards that I passed up. Had a few nulls I let go that I really shouldnt have but all in all I wouldnt change anything. Made some new friends and really just enjoyed being up in that beautiful country. Rugged, steep and brushy..... oh and wet :chuckle:
ANyway, thanks to everyone that helped out on my hunt whether it was just checking in to see how it was going or "packing" meat .... if packing meat 15 YARDS COUNTS :chuckle: Jim packed the whole elk out himself :chuckle: Your an animal man :chuckle: John took some great pictures of my bull and we had a good time the 2 days we ran around together. He helped me work over a bull that I really thought would be a shooter but only sported a 4 point rack with 1 5 inch kicker. Some weird genetics up there as it was a old heard bull from what I could tell.
-
nice bull. congrats

Nicely done.. as you were hunting in there... Did you hear Guns and Roses playing "Welcome to the jungle"? The Nutsack can make you feel like you are in one most of the time...... Over the many years, I think I have said... "Are you F%^&ing kidding me" as I walked/crawled through some of that Sheet in there... LOL

Congrats Charlie!!! Glad you managed to whack a good one during the early season. Can't complain with that bull, I'd be more than willing to spend my 11 pref. points on that bull!!!
Look forward to seeing it in person when I bring in either a BT or WT buck this year!!

It must be nice to wander around sorting through herd bulls for 3 weeks and then just kill one on demand the last day...you're good dude. If your draw luck ever runs out you can come slum it with me in the Olympics.
