164 more to get out of the five units that have a harvest limit. The rest of the state has no harvest limit and some units are scheduled for a 10 month season. I think Idaho is worried that hunter success will be low and that hunters will not be able to keep the wolf packs from growing.

:yeah:  they plan to shoot 800 wolves. They want to reduce down from over 1,000  to 150 dogs or stop at 15 BP.  I heard they have almost 100 packs hang out in Idaho.    :yike:  I wanna move there.

 :mgun:    85 wolves packs please.

Yes, congratulations go to the successful hunters; likely a 'first-ever' for each of them. I dream of one day having an opportunity to draw on a such an animal.

But might we keep in mind that it isn't an arcade game they are playing and they aren't shooting zombies. I think that "Biting the dust" (nothing personal, SpookG, I'm just gonna use those words as an example) is something that should be reserved for the likes of the Raiders and the Lakers (or zombies) and not the game animals that we hunt.  :twocents:

Predators are like zombies to me.  The more that "bite the dust" the happier I am.

You aren't required to eat the predators that you kill, so saying "bite the dust" should be an acceptable phrase for them too.  I really find it hard to believe that anyone would take exception to that kind of phrase when referring to the likes of coyotes or wolves......

8 more majestic wolves have been compassionately harvested. I am sure that the hunters are struggling with their own wolf like instinct to kill other predators.

Was that a little more PC than my previous post?

say what ya want but i say whack em all , killm all, dust them all, cream all of them, or just flat blow the crap outta them,  :chuckle: :chuckle:. i figure there was a reason that the mighty majestic wolf was extinguished from the lower 48, BECAUSE THE GOOD LORD DIDNT WANT WOLF AND HUMAN INTERACTION..

May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

It is funny because your dog and the wolf are the same*.

* Yes, there has been slight genetic drift, but the statement reflects a greater precision than that required by a taxonomy which places coyote and wolf in the same category (unless your diving line is 'wild').  Incidentally, a scientific classification which does allow this is the genus, and it most certainly places lupus, latrins, and familiaris in a common bucket.  So, to speak precisely of 'the likes of coyotes or wolves....' requires that you speak at the same time of your dog.

Maybe in a scientific sense, but not in a practical sense. Seems that dogs help the human race, while wolves hinder.

I doubt the fine would be the SAME, if I shot a feral dog that was taking down deer on my property as apposed to a wolf doing the same thing in Washington.

Awesome, 10 elk killers down now and counting.

Mathmatically, according to studies in yellowstone park that show 1 wolf averages eating 1.7 elk per month, then 17 elk per month or 204 elk per year in Idaho have already been saved during the first week of Idaho wolf season, and that's not counting wolf reproduction that won't happen.

Great work......  :mgun:

At a time when Idaho is reducing the wolf scourge, Washington is planning elk anhilation.... may have to sell out here in Washington and move to Idaho in a few years, I am sure the devastation is already underway here in Washington.  :twocents:

Lolo Unit. wow no kill yet.  Tough country for sure. Tree forest everywhere. Very Expensive trip. I went there few,  Love it there. I definely would love move and live there in Avery area and start  Trap Foothold all year around all over country.   :bash:  I need win Lottery and move there.
Go to Avery town. Trust me they want ur help. They sure will tell u where few Packs hang out.  I hope they will tell u.
U would need two trucks. Dont want one truck broke down there. or ur will be in deep sh!t.   :chuckle:  No wonder why ZERO kill on quote.   :'(  I believe there is 400 wolves hang out there.  Maybe if u wait till very first snow 1" to 5".  Go there and will find cut and call them in. Find a good area where Elk and Wolves track.  Try North anywhere East Avery on Hwy 50 search North where ever u like.  find creek they most close there.
I will go on weekend this winter if My spinecord dont get so bad.

Also unit 4 and 6.  Pretty heavy Traffic Predators.  saw 4 in 3 weekend myself when I am hound hunt. Lots carcass sighting by Buzz turkey. Not easy but once u learn u will do. Take exit Kingston, take left. but before u take left.  go right at exit. fill FULL full gas before u take North.  they are anywhere North west off  Hwy 9. PLENTLY wolves. Trust me.  Try 400 above 9.  u choose anywhere.  there will be few hunter. Dont worry.  More pressure the better.  Get wolves OUT.  Build up all Herds.
Unit 6 possible not much animals but thats where Wolves live.   :dunno:  I dont care if I share infos because trust me they are going closed those area later if wolves arent reduced by hunter.  Not many Herd left there.  Good Luck.

Mule, this pic was from lolo. I called in a bull and the wolf let out a odd sound.....not a howl, not a bark....just odd. The wolf was on the bull and i likely heard his last sounds. I could not yet carry my rifle and pack, so I could only try to watch from a vantage point. There were next to no elk tracks in the higher country from pearce to Powell and only a few wolves crossed the divide road. The outfitters actually feel the wolf count is down since there is nothing to eat.

Wow not even 1% harvested out of 100 packs.  Ouch.   Good job to all hunters who harvested 149 wolves.  Hopefully it will hit 3% before June end.

I heard  whole B.C. harvested 26% from 2004-2011.   :yike:  Thats how HARD it get to managed.

I am suprised no one has posted any pictures of one they have harvested.  Seems odd since quite a few people were excited about the season opener.

If you bought a wolf tag in 2011 and the season is still running do you have to buy a new 2012 hunting license or is the tag still good. I sent some wolf pictures to bearpaw a friend sent me they were big maybe he can post them.

You need a 2012 tag.  Your 2011 tag and hunting lic are no longer valid.  Their tags and licenses run calendar year.

Unfortunately it probably does not matter as the population will sky rocket again in just another month or two with all the new little ones  :bash: :bash:. Still it is nice to see so many tagged

I agree, in 2010 the Nez Perce tribe an the Fed's counted a minimum of 760 wolves (IDFG did not participate) but likely there were 1000 + wolves.

hunting /trapping remove 300 wolves, with birth rates at 20-30% Idaho will be back to 900-1000+ wolves by this fall.    :twocents:

Yep they've been taking out a LOT from the Lolo... been working the Lochsa area the hardest.
Its great news but kind of screws up my personal wolf hunting.  They've got them scattered into singles and pairs everywhere.  They have even found a pack 35 miles from their "home range" from being chased by helos so much!  I'm not going to complain too much we got other areas to try and hunt!

353      ...........    + the 40 or so they took out of the Lolo via helicopter hunting.

Got to love the fact that I'm taxed to study putting wolves back, so that I can be taxed for working to put wolves back, so that I can be taxed to pay for putting wolves back, so that I can be taxed for protecting wolves, so that I can be taxed for monitoring the expanded wolf population, so that I can be taxed to support the legal battle over wolves, so that I be taxed to let them shoot a few out of a helicopter.

Makes me want to punch someone....
