I saw this rare black fox while hunting the high country today , i was able to get with in 12 yards and decided to take pics instead of shoot it so that someone else may beable to enjoy seeing it some day.

That's good you didn't shoot. The hide isn't worth tanning yet. .We killed a black one last year.

Sweet... not all that rare... just a color phase red fox ...they planted these guys all over the San Juan Islands...

i have seen them too up high on a ridge line that looks similiar to that pix you have. very cool :tup:

I know there use to be a real rabbit population up there and mangy inbred deer with out any natural predators. Do you think that is why they planted them?

Great pictures!! I didn't know of black foxes either. Years back my dad and I saw a gray fox around Mount Adams.

I saw one west of Yakima in the Narrowneck Gap area in the 80's .Very cool to get that close and get some pics.

Nice pics, Brad :tup: I have seen about a dozen of so of them when I lived down there. I called them slivertip foxes, cause of the white on the tip of their tail and most I seen had white on the tips of their ears also. Any deer yet??

Ive seen them up rainer in the later months, I would have had a hard time letting him walk. :tup:

I also saw one last summer. Flipping burgers on the BBQ and he
came in to the campground...He hung around for a bit then took off.

San Juan Islands is the place to go if you like foxes. Heres one of the black ones I got over there.
