I will be hunting unit 251(mission) unit for the first time this year. This is a last min. trip so no scouting has been done. I will be hunting around the blewett pass area off highway 97. I would like any feedback on this area. How is the Deer and elk hunting in this area?? Is it worth my time to elk hunt in this area?? Thanks for your feedback.

You wont get to much info on a first post like this. Not like everyone is going to tell you there honey hole. :chuckle: You just have to get out there and see what you can find.

the harvest statistics..thats where you should start, you will get a lot of misinformation online. When you say "worth it" does that mean tagging out or seeing lots of deer or seeing beautiful scenery?
-
i'm looking for a little more info than that.... :chuckle: I'm more trying to get an idea on animal numbers. i'm not asking anyone to give up there honey hole. i'm going with a friend who has hunted there before. trying to get idea what to expect. i'm used to hunting on the west side.

Thanks Armidillo. what I mean by worth it is seeing animals. i've heard there are more deer in this area than elk. thanks for you help.

there are more deer than elk in the area.. I havent seen hardly any deer just driving the roads so if you want to see animals you have to hoof it, try the timber, a lot of the unit is timbered so if you dont see deer your going to hear them jumping. How many deer per day are you used to seeing?

I heard that area blows. I recommend grinding it out road hunting.

Not many on the west side. on a good day maybe five if your lucky.

ok so it shouldnt be any worse than that! if you know where to find mulies.. expect lots of walking in steep country though
