As hunting season starts up I always run into problems picking which rifle I want to use. I'm just curious if others have dedicated guns like their deer, elk, or bear rifle. Do you just have one rifle that you use for everything? Maybe there are different setups for each hunting scenario (long range, brush, tree stand). Or were all of your guns lost in a "boating accident" and now you spear hunt? ;)

I have 1rifle my 7mmmmmmm OH8 .... can always use different bullets for different applications if I feel I must
-
WAYYYYYYYY To many, that's why I switched to archery, not to hard for me to pick just my bow vs. many hunting rifles..
-
It all depends on what and were I'm hunting.. I have 3 go to rifles, a .30-06 that was handed down from my dad, as well as his .240 Weatherby, and when all else fails there is my .30/30 mod.94...

Good rifle run. I have a buddy that has a custom 7mm-08 Ackley improved. Very nice.
-
i have 3 1917 30-06 enfield sporters, i only use one though. not like i will see any shootable animals anyhow, but its nice taking it for long walks through the woods in complete silence except the natural music god is playing in the hills playing along to the beat of my heart..
Also have a nicely sported argentine 7.65 that would be sweet for bear & deer hunts. not sighted in though.

I sure like it...and it enjoys walks in the woods :chuckle: with occasional shooting at paper :P

As versatile a round as there is for all purpose hunting.
As for the initial question... is that not like your wife asking how many women you slept with before she came along??? :yike: Not to be answered, at least not in public??? :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I sold all mine, too much violence in this country and if we get rid of our guns then the gun violence will go away too.
-
To Many !!! :chuckle:
-
I choose to exercise my 5th amendment rights. :chuckle:
Same here however I'll say I need just one more.....
-
i only own 3 rifles and each have a purpose. rem 700 in 22-250 is for coyotes and other varmint sized game, a ruger hawkeye in 243 is my main rifle for everything other than elk. and a rem 700 in 270 that is patiently awaiting for my toy fund to fill up so i can build it into a lighter weight larger game rifle
-
when i got renters insurance, the customer service lady helping me set it up asked me how my my firearms and optics were worth.
I replied "in germany or washington??"
and she replied "oh boy, this is going to take a minute isnt it?"
-
i only have 1 but im only 16, my tikka t3 lite 30-06 works great for bear (just killed one in 1 shot about a week ago :IBCOOL:) and it works for elk great, it might be overkill on deer but i will drop the deer for where we hunt a 270 is greaat for deer and elk
-
counting my little boys 7mm TCU, my little girls 25-35 WIN, my wifes 7mm-08, my 25-06, my 270, my 35 Whelen AI, 2 x 223s & 7mm TCU pistol barrel for my Contender that makes 9, but my kids are outgrowing their contenders & are good enough marksmen/women that they are ready to graduate to something with more power & reach. :chuckle:

I new these answers were coming. :chuckle:
I try to take a different rifle out each time I go deer or elk hunting. I feel bad leaving the others at home. ;) Unfortunately I only hunt 3-4 days a years, so I suppose I could be good with 3-4 rifles. :dunno:
The rifle doesn't matter anyways. The real hunting is done with a handgun. the rifle is just a walking stick to get me to my stand. Andrew
-
A lot. 8)
-
None
-
more than you :chuckle:
-
Just one, never needed more
-
For years it was just my .30-06. I couldn't pass up a .270 for only $200 so I decided I'd make room for it in the closet. However, it doesn't get shot a lot and I am still a 'one rifle hunter.' 8)
-
I only ever use one rifle, and when I move on the old one is retired.
The progression: Savage .243 ---> Winchester Model 70 7mm ---> Browning BAR .300 WSM ---> Sako 85 Greywolf .300 WSM
Next on the list is a custom built .300 RUM. . . So many things I want to buy right now though, it's probably on hold since the Sako is such a fine shooter right now. I've thought about selling the lot to build it but I just can't part with any rifle or bows that I've taken animals with. Too much sentimental value!
-
more than you :chuckle:
Good answer. :chuckle: Even if it is wrong. :tung:
I imagine I could be happy with just the 375 Ruger for everything and become a one gun hunter. Then all the rest would just be "target" rifles. Why wouldn't an 8# 338 make a good 100 yard BR rifle? :bfg:

(1) 30-.06, but I carry an M-4 (5.56) everyday so I guess I have two and own one. The other belongs to Uncle Sam and is assigned to me!

Haha, mine sits in a drop holster all day long, didnt think it was much worth mentioning
-
Just get a 30-06. It has killed just about everything. You can buy ammo anywhere it's sold. Anything else will just cost you more money and slowly fill your entire house or safe. :dunno:

As many as I can afford :chuckle: Not enough :bash: Never enough :chuckle:

So how long before the "my house got robbed and all my guns were stolen" thread?
Some of you guys need to wake up and realize you are putting all this information out there for any Joe blow to see. A couple pieces of information here and there and they have all they need to find out where you live. Plus they now have a list (which you provided for them) of what they need to be looking for. :bdid:
-
I never met a gun I did not like.

In about 5 minutes of researching I'm willing to bet you could have all the info you would need on a person that posted here in this thread. It's not a lot of work... The world wide web makes it very easy for lazy criminals.

Same goes for Mikewalking, he can message me or post here and I will delete it.
I'm just making it so he doesn't have to "imagine" being found by a user name. ;)

This thread took an interesting twist. I do find it amusing that folks are so worried about internet stalkers robbing them at night because of something they posted online. The criminals have apparently won. Just like terrorists, because that's all criminals are, the goal is to get inside your head. If you live your life in fear of all the things that people could do to you, then I pity you. You're letting somebody else influence your behavior. Yes, it is important to be aware of the fact that everything you say or do could be used against you in some way. But being paranoid is rarely the best reaction. :twocents:
I never intended for everyone to throw an exact number out here. I just thought it would be fun to see if other people had multiple hunting rifles. Since I never answered my own question, here goes:
17 Rem
204 Ruger
22lr x3
223
6mm BR (varmint gun)
25-06
6.5x284
7mm-08
30-30
308 Win
300 WSM
300 Savage
338/284 Win
338/375 Ruger
375 Ruger
These are just the rifles. I still need 270, 8mm, 35, 9.3, 416, and 458 bore diameters to be complete. I've had all of these bore diameters at some point, but they got sold or traded. Some of those I have covered in the hunting handguns, but those are for a different topic.

Ihave a ton of them but my rifle I use on everything is my dads .243 Rem 700 have others but this is by far my favorite gun HE got it before I was born so it is atleast 29 yrs old same scope as well.
