Title: High buck hunt trip cut short
Post by: wilsongideon on September 16, 2011, 12:26:37 AM: Well short trip short story...Packed our camp in on wednesday set up and glassed the evening and checked out the country. Opening morning we glassed a few does and little bucks. After we watched them bed down we hiked around a little bit and caught this guy headed a little late to bed. 1st time in this area, 4th High buck hunt, 1st deer. Lotta blind luck. Pretty fun to have my father-in-law with me, wasnt expecting anything more then a fun camping trip but got lucky instead.

I was very dissipointed when I woke up Thurs (at 2 am) to clouds covering the mountain tops :'(. 18 miles of hiking and glassing in drizzling rain sucks. I don't need to drive 3hrs to hunt deer in the rain. :bash:

There was a pretty stiff breeze I was bundled for that but it wasnt bad probably 50 Degrees or so I figured. He was at about 7000 feet when we found him. And no it wasnt 20 Miles in that is for certain we would have just hung him up in a tree and let him hang if we were that far in.

Post by: wilsongideon on September 17, 2011, 06:01:53 PM: yep same deer he rolled about 60 yards down hill over some trees and off some rock piles and broke that G3 off we didnt find it the first time we looked. but a second look we found it under one of the logs. so we put it on for some more of the pictures..I am going to glue it on later. After I shot i was just like oh no please do not break those horns all up..just fortunate that he only lost that one tine. body took some pretty good hits to when I skinned him out you could see all the spots he hit on the way down. oh well all ready tenderized :chuckle:
