Title: Awesome Blackie!!!
Post by: kglacken on September 17, 2011, 03:41:58 PM
We got pictures of this guy on one of our pieces of property. We have not hunted this spot yet, only scouted and after seeing this, I can not wait to get some stands hung for the rifle season and late season of archery ( me dad and uncle have multi season). We have a 2 point minimum on our properties and I wasnt going to shoot a two point until the late season, but if this guy walks by I will have no problem sticking an arrow in him. this picture was taken in late august thats why he is in velvet. I am pumped to start hunting this guy. We also got a 4 point on camera too but I have a feeling that this guy has more inches of bone on his head!

I do not know much about aging deer  :dunno: maybe someone else can give their opinion? This is our first year with this piece of property and im excited about the action so far!

For age, just a guess, but I look at the back/gut/bulk and it is difficult at that angle....but I would say in his fouth year.  So maybe a 2008 fawn.  Back looks to be almost straight and no significant droop in the gut.

I'd take him in a heartbeat, but I always take the first legal buck I see. If you like him, take him.

That is an older buck. My guess is, hes going to be a big ass 2 point for the rest of his life. Cool pic.

Alot of the bucks around skookumchuck valley are just big 2's! Ive shot 2 bucks that look identical to him and were both older deer! The gene pool in acouple area's is getting crappy, I got a pretty good idea where that pic is taken just by that buck..

A dandy BT.  Now if you can find him during your hunting season.

Oh good! There are areas where we have been getting lots of older bucks that look just like him! It sucks when you shoot a big buck thinking you have a dandy 4 pt and get up to him and its just a 2 :bash: Its happend to me twice :chuckle:
