Hi there everyone! I'm new to hunting, and trying to find someone to introduce me to the sport. I've got a modern tag for deer, but I would also LOVE to try my hand at grouse hunting in the mean time. Would anyone be willing to help me out? Thank you so much!
~Jenny

Jenny.......First thing I would need to ask is how old are you (because you may need hunter safety courses). I am always looking for someone to go out with. I spend alot of time in the woods this time of year and most people I know can't get away as much as I can. PM me and lets chat, and congrats on getting in to hunting
-
I'm 25, and already passed hunter safety :)
-
PM sent
-
are you in the military jenny, cause if you are you have some of the best blacktail huntn right there at ft lewis.
-
I'm not in the service, so no luck there. :/
-
I would but, you'd need a bow ;)
-
I would take you but I'm pretty sure my wife wouldn't understand. :chuckle:
-
Try sending a PM to Rosscrazyelk. I'm sure he would like to take you grouse hunting. :twocents:

Wife problem solved! I'll just stop shaving my legs, wear a grungy tank top covered in engine grease, and a bunch of rainbows! Then the wives won't worry! :chuckle: Thank you all for all the wonderful advice and offers. I can't wait to go hunting!!!
-
Where is Lakewood? I like hair, engine grease and always stop to look at rainbows.

ummm that aint gonna work my own son informed me that getting car gunk and oil all over myself was actually considered "hot" in some circles ...as for the hair who knows ...in the 70's hair was downright desirable :chuckle: :dunno:
but good luck hunting
-
Well there goes that plan then LOL. Is anyone still going out for bear? I've got a tag burning a hole in my pocket...
-
My son and I have burned our bear tags. We only half assed it this year though. Any luck lining anything up for deer?

doublej you still got a month of hunting left dont burn that tag yet :dunno:

Still a few out for bear. The longer you wait until the end of the season, the furrier and fatter they get. Plus, by getting a bear in the colder weather less likely to lose meat. I'm not familiar with your area so can't say I know of places there for bears.
-
Hmmmm, i need to think about that. :P How far are you willing to drive? I don't hunt the west side.

Jenny which Lakewood are you north or south?
-
DoubleJ: I've had a couple people talk to me about deer, but I'm always looking for more. I figure the more I can get into the woods the better my chances of bringing home a deer :IBCOOL: I am in the southern Lakewood, between Ft Lewis and Tacoma. Driving isn't too big of an issue for me as my car gets decent mileage. What it can't do is get up forest roads :( That's one of the reasons I'm looking for a partner actually, in addition to wanting some good company and not being comfortable going into the woods alone looking for something that can eat me :yike: I'd prefer to not drive to Idaho or anything :chuckle: but the drive to Monroe a couple weeks ago wasn't bad at all.
-
are you still looking? my eastside trip got canceled. due to buddies bailing(uncle is flying him to new mexico to help on an elk hunt. cant really blame him lol) So im headed out solo for blacktails. PM me if your interested :hello:

Jennyfell55 you have a PM

Be careful.... :dunno:

Looking to months from now/next season here, I'm in the process of getting a longer barrel with chokes for my shotgun. Once that's taken care of I'd love to try my hand at waterfowl and turkey hunting. I would love to find someone to be my mentor to take me under their wing :chuckle: The barrel is 28" with a 3" chamber and interchangeable chokes.. is that suitable for these activities?

I will be out in the woods all this week after work in the Shelton area, little bit of a drive from Lakewood but hey if you can make it I'm out solo right now too and might need the help packing some meat out of the woods or vice-versa.

If you already have a short barrel, that will work for turkey. 28" will be good for the ducks/geese. Check out the turkey thread. Lots of good information in there. Ping me if you have any questions. I'm a turkey junkey.

Get a JBLM pass....me and a buddy are out there all the time. Plus its close. Seen bears and deer in there.

Hello....I am in the same boat. I have always wanted to hunt but never really knew anyone that hunts. I have not taken my hunters safety course yet but would like to start talking to people to mentor me and help me begin getting all the proper equipment! I am super excited and willing to drive. I am in the TricCities:)

You could get the one year hunter's ed deferrment and still go hunting this season. It might help if you list what types of hunting (deer/elk/high country/bird/road/archery) you are wanting to try.

What is a hunter's ed deferrment? Do you have more info on that?
-
you can take someone huntn that has not been through hunter ed, the reason is to see if they like it before waisting their time sitting at one of the courses, i took a kid through the same thing and after the season was over he couldnt wait to get signed up for hunter ed... call the wdfw and ask about the one time defferal hunting license and they will tell you all the stuff you will need the only thing that was a pain is i had to go to oly in person hopefully you dont have to that anymore but either way it wasnt a bad expierience the people there were real helpful

That's a perfect size gun for waterfowl. Are you still looking for someone to go with? I just recently started looking for people to go with because I'd like to go every weekend if i could, but my dad can't always go with me. Oh ya, i have a truck. :)

I'd be willing to take you hunting. What are you looking to hunt? I hunt waterfowl, over in easter Washington. You should let me know once you've taken the course and we can talk about possibly going on hunt.

@TacomaHunter: I already have a pass for JBLM, I just don't really know what areas out there are any good for deer. Are you planning on going there at all for late season?
@kendawg2485: I'm always looking for hunting partners! I'm still scraping the last of the money together for the barrel, but hopefully I will have that soon. I already have a set of waders, hooray! Even though I've never been I get the feeling I'll want to go as much as I can!

Ok, that's cool. I'm new the game as far as looking for people to hunt with. I've always hunted with my dad and his friends, but they don't go as much as i'd like to. I would like to go as many weekends as I can until the end of the season. Having waders is a good thing. Lol! If you ever decide you might want to meet up with me sometime to go, I have 2 extra guns to choose from if you'd like to use one. If your interested, shoot me an email with more info and maybe we can get together. :)
